CD Description
Though he's best known as the singer for country-rockers the Mavericks, Raul Malo has made a name for himself as a soloartist who owes little if anything to previous associations. With rich, near-operatic vocal chops that bring to mind Roy Orbison, Malo is equally adept at tackling country, pop, and rock, but AFTER HOURS finds him looking back towards classic country sounds. He tackles everything from Roger Miller's "Husbands and Wives" to Hank Williams's "Cold Cold Heart",and the drama inherent in his singing style invests a deep level of emotion into each tune. Much as Glen Campbell did in the '60s and '70s, Malo uses his interpretive abilities toblur the lines between country and other genres, establishing his own singular paradigm in the process.

Awesome
A brilliant album by a singer so obviously at the top of his game....my only complaint is that I would have gladly listened to this album for another 4-5 songs, 10 is a bit short really when the quality is this good.
Real Quality
Raul Malo shows once again his versatility with this mew album. Most of the tracks here are familiar even classic country numbers. However on this occasion Raul has arranged the songs in more of a swing style and I can honestly state that it has factor. I have never heard Raul's voice sound better both clarity and power. This is real music at it's best.
Just lsten to "A fool such as I" I would never have thought that a swing arrangement would work but oh boy it certainly does.
For me this recording is a best buy....well done Raul, more please.

Not what I expected
If you are going to buy this album thinking you are getting an album of Mavericks type music or even Country, think again. it is a jazz/swing album.
