Customer Reviews
A band maturing nicely
Apart from the cheesy thunderstorm opening (again!) this effort soon settles down to a lively and pretty much original take on a road previously travelled by the likes of bands like Rainbow, Journet, Van halen, Def Leppard...and so on, Lots of influences then but this is a welcome addition to the roster and improves 100% on their first album. The production is more up front, the songs are better and the musicianship is staggering at times. It's just a shame that no one will hear this will they. Classic Rock magazine has given this a good review but I can't see Mojo, Q or even dear old kerrang picking up on it. I stand to be corrected and will be happy if that is the case because as so often has happened this year, hard rock has come into a renaissance (was it ever away?) and this should be as commercially succesful as the recent albums by the likes of Whitesnake, Def leppard, Firewind, Iced earth and even Metallica and AC/DC, the list goes on (in fact I'll knock a listmania out on this subject soon)
back to the future then....?
You bet!
...classic rock and metal from a classic band...
So, only a year after their debut, Eden's Curse are back with a second slab of powerful eighties heavy rock and metal. And it's a cracker. It's a full sounding record, chock full of memorable choruses, air guitar inspiring riffs and a couple of the obligatory power ballads.
They've also dragged in a fair number of very special guests to fill out the sound, especially on the backing vocals, which all feature Tony Harnell (TNT, Westworld, Starbreaker), with Doogie White (Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen) popping up in the "Curse Choir" beside Carsten Schulz (Evidence One). If that wasn't enough, Pamela Moore (Sister Mary from Queensryches "Operation: Mindcrime") duets with Micheal Eden on 'Angels & Demons', the bands first digital single, of which more later.
First up, hefty props to Thorsten Koehne whose guitar work is absolutely immense, especially when he gets let off the leash as on 'Raven's Revenge,' and the pounding 'Just Like Judas'. Coupled with the superb production by Dennis Ward, it lifts the album up into one of the finer releases of 2009. There are shades of classic Dokken and Bonfire about the band ,something that should bring a smile to face of those of a certain vintage.
Apart from the tracks mentioned above, `Angels & Demons', the duet with Pamela Moore is stunning, as is 'Masquerade Ball'. But you'll be hard pushed to find a weak link on this release, although it does fade away slightly over the last couple of tracks. Regardless, this is a fabulous album.
Bringing The 80s Back.
Just few words. You like 80s and early 90s. You like Melodic Heavy Metal with nice Wonderful and Screaming Voice and Chorus, Punchy Guitar Rhythm, Melodious Guitar Solo, Heavy Drum Beats. You like Silent Rage, Hardline, Europe, Victory, Dokken, Loudness, Pretty Maids, Y&T and so on. Here is "Eden's Curse - The Second Coming" doing it amidst today's new generation of rock. Surely won't disappoint you.
