Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
After the huge critical success of Musik and Sheet One and a justified reputation as one of the best live techno acts ever, Plastikman's third album is a move away from the dancefloor. An alias for Canadian technohead and co-founder of Detroit label +8 Richie Hawtin, Plastikman has created the soundtrack for surveillance videos. Incredibly dark and atmospheric, Hawtin plays with the empty places in your head. Electronic noises echo through space as if in barren warehouses. Melodic acid lines drift over never-ending beats in the eerily bleak "Locomotion" and "Contain". This intense music is best heard in quiet isolation, not before a night out on the tiles. --Ed Potton
CD Description
Floating in an ocean of dubby ambience, CONSUMED, Richie Hawtin's third album under his Plastikman alias, is a sprawling electronic epic more concerned with evoking a personalisedsoundspace than flooding the dancefloor with beats. Having risen to fame among the second generation of Detroit-area minimalist techno artists, the Windsor, Ontario-born Hawtin has always applied a "less is more" philosophy to his pieces. Yet four years removed from his last Plastikman release, thedancefloor paean MUSIK, this philosophy has manifested itself in a murky sonic swamp (the low-end rules here!), full ofominous echoes.
Hawtin has created an ambient perversion, treating wide-open soundscapes by dubbing and filtering them until they're nearly claustrophobic. And yet the grooves his strangled-pulses-as-beats create are a stoner head-nod of the highest order, stretching forever until they seem to collapse into themselves. It's like a soundtrack to a bliss-out in a black hole.
Customer Reviews
buy this classic illbient album @!
dark, sweet, rich, empty and mysterious. This album delivers the promise of illbient techno. Minimalist at the same time as being almost overpoweringly rich sonically. A must have.
It is truly a piece of Art with a Capital A
If your into minimal or have a very open mind to music and your patient, buy it now! This album is the most perfect in composition, down right ot every channel in every track. It should be playing in an empty dim hall in a modern gallery. Ritchie Hawtin's life's purpose was to create this album.
still a great album
bought this on vinyl years ago, and still found myself needing this album after my record player bit the dust. Great dub techno.
