![]() | Boys for Pele by Tori Amos
Buy new: £6.58 / Used from: £2.95 My favourite Tori album. Darker than it's predecessors. Great depth and mood with touches of menace!
![]() | Vespertine by Bjork
Buy new: £6.48 / Used from: £3.14 Probably my all time favourite album. It has a special dreaminess, innocence and intimacy unmatched by any other album.
![]() | We Are the Romans by Botch
Buy used from: £10.00 Well it had to be in here, and if you know it you'll know why. Utterly decent.
![]() | Nocturne Impalpable by Sylvain Chauveau
This, along with Des Plumes dans la Tête make up my two favourite Sylvain Chauveau releases. Mesmerising, beautiful, heartwrenching short songs that somehow make you smile.
![]() | Calculating Infinity by The Dillinger Escape Plan
Buy new: £10.08 / Used from: £5.00 A stunning display of technical metal.
![]() | Copia by Eluvium
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £6.80 It's as if this album grew out of the earth in a lush and secret place. An organic mix of strings, piano, horns etc often carried by gentle drones.
![]() | Aurora [VINYL] by Esmerine
Buy used from: £51.68 I like this a lot, and have done since it was released. Music for memories.
![]() | The Hours by Original Soundtrack
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £6.83 Whilst it stands alone perfectly well, it's a beautiful score that connects so well with the film you barely notice it. Moving and elegant.
![]() | Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada by Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Buy new: £9.38 / Used from: £5.28 I couldn't put it any better than this Amazon reviewer - "Massive and potent, sweeping, grand, unforgettable. This music evokes the strongest of emotions".
![]() | Redlight by Grails
Buy new: £13.98 / Used from: £6.50 Strange how I always thought this had a familiarity to it but then it also sounded like nothing I'd heard before!! Still Grails finest??
![]() | DESIGN by Into the Moat
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.20 More crunchy, techy metal........and when that's what you want, this won't let you down.
![]() | A Passion Play by Jethro Tull
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.92 Maybe a controversial choice if you like and are familiar with Tull's earlier work but I think it's great. Complex and dark melodies with the usual Anderson whit.
![]() | Subject to Change Without Notice by Keelhaul
Buy new: £11.69 / Used from: £4.00 I heard someone call this 'BBQ-Metal' once, and though sometimes it feels more like frantic intelligent rock, it does feel good on a sunny day with a cold beer and.....yep, a barbeque on the go.
![]() | Nothing by Meshuggah
Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £5.78 My favourite Meshuggah album. Slower, heavier.
![]() | Perils by Miasma & The Carousel of Headless Horses
Buy new: £9.98 Sounds like dark, sinister, chamber prog-rock folk victoriana eerie madness - with a swagger.
![]() | The Dreadful Hours by My Dying Bride
Buy new: £7.98 / Used from: £4.80 Now perhaps I'm letting myself down here but I just can't help liking MDB & have done since my early teens, so maybe that's simply why. If it's not this album its Turn Loose The Swans. Epic and gloomy
![]() | Times of Grace by Neurosis
The mighty Neurosis. All there stuff is brilliant but the follow-up to Through Silver in Blood has recently become my current favourite.
![]() | Seminar II: The Holy Rites of Primitivism Regressi by Old Man Gloom
Buy used from: £21.04 This band have a great sound - heavy, heavy pounding rock/metal laced with droney, noisey sections. Nicely done, and this has to be my favourite of theirs, though it's a tuff choice.
![]() | My Arms Your Hearse by Opeth
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £4.40 Having been a fan for a long time it's hard to pick a favourite but if I had to it'd probably be this.
![]() | Terrifyer by Pig Destroyer
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £8.06 One of the most ferocious metal albums ever! A totally disgraceful mess of genius! The 5.1 mix of Natasha on the DVDA disc is also amazing.
![]() | Hail to the Thief by Radiohead
Buy new: £5.38 / Used from: £2.18 In a strange way I have put this up instead of Ok Computer because that albums greatness goes without saying, and because Hail to the Thief is also great.
![]() | Handwritten Notes by Preston Reed
Another brilliant accoustic guitar album from Preston Reed. Highly accomplished playing without it being for the sake of it. Sometimes very laid back and other times full throttle and rhythmic.
![]() | Supermodified by Amon Tobin
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.66 This or Permutation. Electronica from the dark side.
![]() | Blood Money by Tom Waits
Buy new: £5.98 / Used from: £4.19 The greatest entertainer!! Almost impossible to pick a favourite, but maybe this is it. If you don't listen to Tom Waits then start, and if you do then I don't need to explain.
![]() | The Blue Notebooks by Max Richter
Buy new: £6.48 / Used from: £11.14 Lastly my favourite composer of all, Max Richter. Again hard to pick a favourite but this seems to be the common one. Haunting and melancholic drenched in an ambience of dreaminess.
