A Home and Health Care Guide to Aromatherapy and Essential Oils Aiming to open the way to a world of fresh opportunities, this book approaches nature through one of its most powerful forms - fragrant essential oils, drawn from flowers and grasses, trees and roots, leaves and fruit. Essential oils have many properties which are explained in this guide. Remedies for sports injuries, sunburn and stress, are described alongside preparations for health and beauty, for pregnancy and childbirth and for general well-being. There are chapters on how essential oils can be used throughout the home - for cooking and even in petcare. Valerie Ann Worwood is the author of ""Aromantics"". From the Back CoverThe Fragrant Pharmacy opens the way to a whole world of fresh possibilities. It is a new approach to nature through one of its most powerful forms - those fragrant ''essential oils'' drawn from flowers and grasses, trees and roots, leaves and fruit, that remain the great untapped resources of our planet. The Fragrant Pharmacy shows how each essential oil can offer many diverse benefits. One of the most holistic of all systems of medicine, the oils can alleviate symptoms, prevent many illnesses and disorders and help in their healing process. But more than that, they can provide all of us - our families, our homes, even our pets - with the protections and pleasures we need...without the chemical pollution of our bodies or our envirnment. Customer Reviews
Very informative, straight forward and easy to understand.
This is the first book of Aromatherapy I bought. Since then I have purchased many more books on the subject but I keep referring back to this one as it is consistant, informative and easy to understand.
It covers everything from childbirth to old age, listing aromatherapy solutions to countless conditions (even hiatus hernia). It also covers beauty treatments for all ages and cooking.
A must for the beginner to the advanced.
brilliant! Useful for most everything from flu to flatulence
this has some brilliant recipes and of the ones i've tried all have worked. It has great background information, where to go to know more and exact doses of the oils.Fantastic amount of information and an invaluable bible of aromatherapy
Excellent reference, though a bit dated
An excellent resource, with formulas for everything from headaches to insomnia, gardening to laundry. This book provides solutions to almost anything you could think of.
The only problem is that the book was published some 15 years ago, and as a result, a lot of safety information is out of date. For instance, she recommends using high doses of nutmeg oil continuously for weeks on end as a cure to poor circulation, whereas more recently published books say that using nutmeg oil over long periods of time causes mental and nervous disturbances. She also recommends the use of some oils (such as sage) that have now been discovered to be toxic and consequently are not recommended for use anymore. Her dilutions are also usually higher than the recommended 3%.
Having said that though, the book is very useful, provided the lay reader (that's most of us) doesn't use it as a stand-alone, i.e. buy a book which has been revised within this decade and look up each oil she recommends and check safety precautions before deciding whether it would be safe for you to use that oil at home.
