Synopsis
Two features including THE PRINCESS DIARIES and this sequel in which Princess Mia, the future queen of Genovia, finds her right to succession challenged. Still single, and with dreams of finding her own prince charming, she finds herself brought down to earth with a bump when she is presented with someone she considers unsuitable but is still expected to do her duty.
Customer Reviews
Good storylines, great performances from the leading ladies
Although clearly about the same characters, these films are quite different in a number of ways. The first has all the elements of a teen film: there's Mia's choice between everything she's ever known and her duty as a princess, the best friend who's alienated as Mia's character picks 'the other crowd', some posh frocks, a love interest that may or may not work, and lots of dashing about at the end, where we receive the final twist in the plot. Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews give excellent performances and most age groups will enjoy the film.
I have to say I prefer the second film. It's more like a teen version of Bridget Jones' Diary with tiaras because of the witty dialogue (obviously less explicit!) between Mia and the seemingly dastardly chap who wants to steal the throne from her, but we can all see from the outset that he fancies her to bits! This film is about Mia's realisation that she cannot rule if she doesn't get over her insecurities, and must once again make a decision from her heart. There's also another baddie to put the spanner in the works; a little like the one in 'What A Girl Wants'. Anne Hathaway delivers a fantastic performance in the second instalment, and the chemistry between the couple makes you realise that this is a downright sexy film in places (if you read between the lines), even though the little ones (mine are 5 and 7) are impressed with the simple romance of it all. If you are old enough that you can hardly remember what it was like to be a teen in love, this film should help you remember!
If you've not seen the films before, buy the pair in confidence because the second film carries on well from the first, but you don't feel like you are watching the same film twice, as often happens with many 'teen sequels'. Oh, and the archery tip really works - I tried it out with a longbow at a country fair, and got the bullseye the first time! Heh!
Anne Hathaway has gone for a lot of similar roles, so if you liked her in films like 'Ella Enchanted', pick up these films with confidence as the style of humour is about the same, and Hathaway knows how to perform this genre well.
excellent
These are great family movies, easy to watch, funny, and makes you laugh and cry. In my opinion it is a worthwile buy. Great value on amazon too!
GREAT GIRLY FLICK!
This box set are 2 great fun films for any rom/com fans out there & I would highly recommend buying.
Anne Hathaway is a hoot & Julie Andrews is,as usual,as brilliant as always & is perfect for her role as Queen.
I thoroughly enjoyed these movies despite my usual taste of film being horror or fantasy.
