The Prisoner Variations is a collection of 29 short stories based on and around the 1960's television series The Prisoner which stars Patrick McGhoohan.
The Prisoner Variations are both surreal and enigmatic. Sometimes humourous, other times somewhat haunting.

Customer Reviews

An Enthusiastic Read!5
Anyone who is familiar with the name of David Stimpson will be aware of his commitment to the cult 60's TV programme "The Prisoner". Over the years David has built up something of a reputation as an aficionado of Patrick McGoohan's intriguing enigma, both through his re-enactment’s of Number Six at various Prisoner related gatherings and his film "Village Day"; all hugely enjoyable.

David's first book "The Prisoner Variations" is no exception, drawing together a collection of 29 short stories which explore and expand the themes of the series and the cultdom that surrounds the programme.

With David's highly idiosyncratic style at the fore, I found it a hugely enjoyable read that overall conveys David's love and passion for the programme and the community it has spawned. I would recommend it to fans of The Prisoner who are wanting to delve further into the labyrinth of concepts that make up the series.

Twist and twist again!5
If you were ever a fan of the television series 'The Prisoner', then you should enjoy this book. If you are one of those who cannot get enough of the 60s cult classic, then 'The Prisoner Variations' may be required reading. Just how many twists upon an original theme can there be? Well, when David Stimpson's imagination is at work, there would appear to be no limit. In story after story, just as we think we know where we are going, suddenly we end up somewhere else! And yet the twists are not thrust upon us, without reason; always they answer to an inner logic, with which we become the more familiar as we progress through the book. And progress this reader certainly did, rapidly. 'I'll just read one more', was my repeated, inner refrain! Here is one reader who will look forward to the author's next offering.
