An excellent exposition of open canoe techniques
This book should be read by anyone taking up canadian canoeing. It focusses wholly on the techniques you need when using the canoe. Each technique, whether going forward, sideways, or leaning to increase manoeuvreability, is given two pages. This makes it easy to digest as there is no flipping forward or back between diagrams and text.
Single and dual techniques are both well covered.
The best place for this book is in the boat to use when practicing. At that point the reader is not concerned with how much rocker and tumblehome a craft should have, only with how to get efficiently and safely from A to B, preferably without hitting the rock at C! To be used in that way though the publishers should consider an edition which is better protected from the water and easier to keep open when the reader has a paddle in his or her hand. The best approach would be to have it laminated and ring-bound.
