Customer Reviews
Not Capercaillie, but buy it just to hear Sorley Maclean!
This is not Capercaillie, but none the less it is the voice of Capercaillie. It seems odd to hear Karen Matheson sing with sax, piano, steel guitar, harmonica, gaelic poetry reading, and the BT Ensemble in the background. There is not the "drive" that you associate with Capercaillie; this is a more laid back sort of sound. Plenty of Gaelic, I especially liked 'Ic Iain 'Ic Sheumais.
Pure melodic joy
Karen Mathesons's debut solo album is both moving and melodic. Assisted by James Grant the album contains both commercial and distincly celtic sounds. The opening track 'There's always Sunday' should have been a single its so catchy you can't help humming along, whilst the title track will make you feel as though you are on a deserted Scottish beach its wonderful. The album will appeal to Capercaillie fans and too many more.
Beautiful vocals on enchanting album
I have most of Capercaillie's albums so I know how good Karen Matheson's voice is. I was intrigued about this album so I bought it and was taken away to a different world. The songs are wonderfully structured and so well sung that all the listener has to do is sit back, relax and drift away while the music and lyrics wash over you.
This is an impressive album and I would like to purchase the next two she has released. I think that her voice is truly astounding and I would urge any fan of Capercaillie to purchase at least one of Karen Matheson's albums. This is her debut album away from the band, although Donald Shaw contributes with keyboards, synthesizers and accordian. He also produced the album. A delightful addition to the Capercaillie catalogue.
