Customer Reviews
Possibly the best of a brilliant bunch.
It's a difficult task to pick a favourite album from a band with such a long history and a record of producing such amazing albums. This is probably the one I'd go for (though "Searchlight" and "The Cutter and the Clan" give it a good run for its money). This is the MacDonald brothers at their most moody and atmospheric - the songs are driven by brooding guitars and percussion, with keyboards adding just the right note of broodiness or whimsy according to the song. The opening bars of "Headlights" are like watching a storm roll in over the hills at night, and the scene-painting continues right to the end of the album. Stand-out tracks for me are "This Beautiful Pain" (because it clicked with me, somehow), "I'll Keep Coming Home" (delightfully understated) and the gorgeous "Always the Winner" - which, in sentiment if not necessarily in melody, is perhaps the most uplifting song the band have ever written.
masterpiece
I pity the poor soul who doesn't have this album in their collection, for this, my friend, is in my view one of the greatest albums of all time (yes, that good, you really should have it you know). Even though I am much criticised about my taste in music, rich as it is coming from all these Radio 1/pop-dance rubbish zombies, I can't see anyone sitting down to this and not liking it. Imagine you are driving through an empty Scottish moorland road at night, with this soaring, atmospheric, beautiful and powerful rock music filtering through your head and you would be hard pushed to find anything so perfect. From the huge opening track Headlights to the majestic, dancy An Cuibhle Mòr (all the more beautiful for being in Gàidhlig) and the awe-inspiring closing track Flower Of The West, you will be entranced, and you will press 'Repeat All Tracks' and you will never stop listening to it for as long as you live.
ALL HAIL RUNRIG!
The Big Wheel - Fantastic
Bar "Long Distance," "The Big Wheel" is probably one of, if not, the best album that Runrig have produced. With a fantastic mixtue of Gaelic and English, it combines heavy rock and great balads, along with a fantasic little tune with just a piano. BUY IT NOW!
