Manufacturer's Description
Verbatim Double Layer Discs provide a massive 8.5GB storage capacity. The double layer of recording has been made possible by the creation of a new substrate layer that sits in between each recording layer, that allows the laser beam to record on both layers. Once the first layer has been recorded, the laser is re-focused to record on the second layer.

Works well if you have the power....
I always choose an estsblished brand and Verbatim certainly fits the bill. Have not had a failed disc so far but believe a high end PC contributes to my success. The best option for storage until the price of Blu-Ray comes down......
Great for macs....!
If you using these discs to burn XBOX 360 backups. Then there is no better disc if you are using the macs superdrive other cheaper discs like AONE will not work as the heat is too much for them. i can't recommend these enough
Just as fickle and erratic as any other brand of dual layer disc
I have two desktop PCs and a standalone DVD recorder, all of which, according to the manufacturer's information, should write to 8.5 GB dual layer DVD +/-R discs. In the past I have tried various brands of such disc including Datawrite, Traxdata, Ridisc, Bulkpaq and TDK. All have performed erratically, sometimes writing OK but most times not. I have never been a great fan of Verbatim products, but having seen several 5 star reviews of these discs on Amazon's site, I decided to try a pack. They are more money, and usually the old maxim of "you get what you pay for" holds true, but in my limited experience of these Verbatim discs (8 of the 10 discs used so far and only one success) they are, regrettably, just as fickle and erratic as any other brand of dual layer disc despite the extra cost. I think I will simply stick to single layer 4.7 GB discs in future as leading brands of these (Sony, Fuji etc) are virtually problem-free.
