a very handy book for a child with ASD5
Only got this book the other day and started using it right away, a simple idea but the best ones always are. My son 'get's it' right away and now understands that he can be behaving ona scale of 1-5 - we've talked about it and we'll start to devise our own charts. Using the pitch of his voice is such a good idea....children with ASD are often VERY LOUD and this impacts on the whole family. He has at least started to realise that when he is at a 4 or 5 and really making a lot of noise - then I start feeling a 4 or 5 too. If you have a child with ASD or ADHD this will be a very handy book to help you cope!

Brilliant social behaviour-learning book for children with ASD5
This is a very easy-to-use book! It's not a complicated programme that has to be ploughed through and is very parent-friendly (it doesn't pre-suppose that you're a qualified teacher!). My son who has aspergers (age 9) is very interested in the book and took to it straight away. We found the 1-5 scale for teaching voice-volume extremely helpful and with immediate results. The rest of the book does deal with a lot of difficult behaviour issues - punching, obsessions, inappropriate touch, anger, agression & panic, and has suggestions for 'working' through feelings & ideas about how to deal with levels on the scale. It also gives clear examples which can be modified, plus examples of social stories to accompany different scale. I was specifically looking for something to help with anxiety/panic but think this may need to be combined with other techniques to make our own personalised 1-5 scale. The book could be used across a very wide age-range definitely including younger children & teens (we tried on it grown-up relatives & our son now uses the scale to correct them if they're too loud!). It would be super to use in conjunction with supportive school staff. It's an extremely useful tool and as with many of the best ideas it's brilliantly simple, thank you!!

Help with Challenging Behaviour5
I bought this book a while ago and am very impressed. It gives some great ideas for coping with challenging behaviours. in particular my Son is motivated by colours and numbers so we will be able to calm him down and reduce inappropriate behaviours through the methods used in the book. it is a very simple concept and easy for parents to implement.
