Synopsis
Acclaimed stand-up comedian Michael McIntyre delivers a hilarious performance to a receptive crowd at London's Hammersmith Apollo.

More about Michael McIntyre:
Michael McIntyre doesn’t hang about; he can take claim for having the fastest selling debut stand-up DVD ever with Live & Laughing, along with being the quickest-selling comedian at the Edinburgh Festival packing out 26 consecutive nights. Now he’s started, there appears to be no stopping London-born Michael, who is the rising star of British comedy. His brilliantly engaging delivery and effortless rapport with the audience have led to him to be hailed by audiences and critics as one of the best-stand-up talents currently performing in the UK. Michael observed the world unpaid until 2003 when he began his stand-up comedy journey and was nominated for the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Festival. Since then he has sold out theatres across the country, become a regular face on television and has been nominated for a whole host of prestigious awards. Michael’s ever-increasing fan base has grown via word-of-mouth popularity rather than from a regular weekly TV slot. Michael says: “I don't really do jokes. I just talk about things that I find funny. I tend to laugh at them myself as well because I find them funny. I don't do gags, just observational comedy. I just collect all these stories and try them out and if people laugh I do them again and make them better.”

In 2008, Michael won Best Headliner at the Chortle Awards and was nominated in the same category the previous year. Michael proved he’d earned his place as one of the country’s most popular comedians when he was nominated in the Best Live Stand-Up Performer category alongside Alan Carr and Russell Brand.

Michael has twice hosted the popular BBC show Live at the Apollo and performed for Prince Charles on his 60th Birthday on ITV’s We Are Most Amused as well as well as the Royal Variety Performance. Consequently, he’s now on first name terms with his Royal Highness, Prince Charles.

During the past year Michael’s meteoric rise to fame has seen him play just under 100 sold-out dates throughout the UK including five sell-out nights at London’s Hammersmith Apollo. In June, 2009, Michael is hosting the BBC prime-time show Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. In September, 2009, Michael starts his arena tour across the UK including three nights at the 02 in London.

The saga the father-in-law's soggy sock.4
If you've already seen Michael McIntyre's 'Live at the Apollo', and watched him on various panel comedy shows then you'll be pleased to hear that his "Live and Laughing" tour isn't a re-working of his older material, although some of it does seem to be cropping up when he makes appearances on TV - but that's to be expected.

Yes there are a couple of lines which you may have seen practised on Mock the Week or something like that, but you watch this and feel that you're getting good value for money. McIntyre takes inspiration from his home life for much of the show, from his seemingly anti-Semitic baby, to booking a holiday, to the 'man drawer' (where the old batteries, keys to the old house, and the old mobile phones live) and this insight into his life makes him more endearing.

In a nutshell: I really enjoyed watching this tour live (at Sheffield) and my wife laughed so much that she was hurting. I initially gave this 4 stars, but in retrospect I think it deserves 5. The Live at the Apollo performance which is included on this DVD contains his legendary 'man getting his head stuck in the tube train doors' routine which always has me in stitches no matter how many times I watch it. This is a brilliant stand up performance, a lot of creative imagination has gone into it, and I do not doubt that you will laugh until you have tears.

Many stand-up DVDs contain nothing you haven't seen performed before, but the main feature is pretty much all new material, and the Live at the Apollo routine is effectively his 'best of the rest' - and it's all good!

comedy masterpiece4
after becoming a huge fan of his after his performances on live at the apollo, mock the week, the prince's birthday bash etc, i could not wait for this dvd, and it didnt disappoint. A superb performance with some hilarious sketches, such as his young son "adolf", breakfast buffets and farm traffic.
This dvd also includes his live at the apollo performance, which is worth a tenner in itself. Both performances are superb, and i cant wait for his next tour, in which i will surely be getting tickets for.

Ah yes, humour without cruelty - I remember that!5
After seeing the likes of Jimmy Carr (a clever man whose live comedy unfortunately is derived from being nasty, cynical and cruel at heart) and Frankie Boyle (funny but again feeds on cruety and hate to get laughs) - it's so nice to see someone like Michael McIntyre perform live.

Although it is traditional observational comedy, there's nothing wrong with it when it's done this well.

Very few comedians make both my wife and I literally cry with laughter but I have to say that when Michael mentioned "The Loft Whores" (won't spoil the rest), we had to stop the DVD for 5 minutes to recover ourselves.

This is funny stuff, well performed, and it doesn't require you to laugh at someone else's misfortune or ask you to hate someone else before you can laugh at the joke!
