Useful and current travel information4
The book is very helpful and full of useful travel titbits when travelling round Sicily, pointing out interesting features of each of the main regions and recommended places to visit. The walking tour in Palermo was excellent, and the beaches highlighted were exceptional. The restaurant recommendations were fantastic, though the great hotel we stayed in was not mentioned in the guide, despite there only being a few hotels in the town itself.

You will need, however, to supplement the book with a language guide if you do not speak Italian, as it contains only the most basic phrases, and it would be helpful to expand on these when required. Furthermore, a more detailed map or sat-nav should be used to travel around, rather than relying on the small sections of map provided for some of the towns. I had trouble with some of the road names given in the book as they were often abbreviations, which were difficult to locate in my sat-nav. Similarly I couldn't find the Funicular cable car in Trapani as the location given in the book was vague, and the locals referred to it by a different name when asking for directions.

Essential for travelling Sicily4
I had 5 very enjoyable days in Sicily and had to travel from Palermo to Selinunte in the south of the Island by public transport. The information in this book was invaluable in helping this journey run smoothly and the historical information on Selinunte in particular was detailed and very informative.

I would very much recommend this book for anyone travelling Sicily by public transport, especially as the taxis are none too cheap! I would certainly rate this book as value for money as it will save you at least it's price in handy tips.

If you are buying this book I hope you enjoy the warm people of Sicily as much as I did and the minimal touristy feel to the Island.

Have a good trip,
Geoff

Excellent all-round coverage of Sicily. Was heading to Syracuse from palermo, but now it's whet my appetite for more!
