Synopsis
THE SOMETHING, SOMETHING, SOMETHING DARK SIDE is the sequel to BLUE HARVEST, a special 60 minute episode from cult cartoon franchise FAMILY GUY. Following the example of its predecessor, this instalment retraces the adventures of the STAR WARS saga from the bizarre perspective of Seth MacFarlane’s dysfunctional characters. Chris Griffin – the chubby and clumsy teenage son - is transformed into a less charming and not so resourceful Luke Skywalker, Stewie Griffin – the ever menacing toddler - aptly morphs into an even meaner version of Darth Vader, while Peter Griffin and Lois Griffin play Han Solo and Princess Leia respectively.

The difficult second film...
It was always going to be tough to live up to Blue Harvest, the Family Guy spoof of Star Wars Episode IV, and unfortunately this spoof of The Empire Strikes Back didn't quite do it for me. I like Family Guy a lot and actually got into it after catching Blue Harvest whilst flicking channels on the tv, and the rest is history.

Dark Side follows on from Blue Harvest at a fast pace, starting on Hoth. I felt there were, as another reviewer states, a few too many cut-away scenes that seem to be a bit too in-jokey and will appeal to American audiences and not other viewers as they refer to obviously American things, like Juicy Fruit ads. I felt it also lacked a bit of the really sharp observations we saw in Blue Harvest, such as the Death Star guys complaining they don't have a rail etc.

Bits that are a success are of course the faithful story-telling of The Empire Strikes Back, which shows the Family Guy team are obviously huge huge Star Wars fans, as I am, and the animation (done by rendering) is a joy to watch. There are a few little observations which I did enjoy, the way characters say their lines which were memorable from the original ("Good. Our first catch of the day.") etc.

Overall, this is average at best, and I'm sad to say lost my interest halfway through. It is still worth watching though if you're a fan, and I will of course watch if there is a version of Return of the Jedi. If you liked Blue Harvest, and if you haven't already, watch the Robot Chicken version. The bit with Admiral Ackbar on the quiz show is hilarious.

Brilliant!
For the Family Guy fan this is a must see!

Following on from Blue Harvest, it is another fantastic spin off of the Star Wars series. Full of classic Family Guy moments & its typical genius one liners, this film had me laughing from the word go. The religious "digs" at the FOX network are included & they are quite brilliant.

I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is a fan of the series.

Good but not as good as blue harvest
If you enjoy family guy then you will enjoy this dvd, its a cert, but the quality of this movie compared to blue harvest in my opinion isn't up to the same standard. A lot of the jokes have already been used many times before in family guy and they won't really be anything too new or groundbreaking for anyone who has seen the show. But saying that there are a couple of truely laugh out loud moments throughout the movie that nearly had me in tears, i just felt they were too infrequent. Overall i would recommend you rent this movie as opposed to buying it becuase i can't see many people wanting to watch it more than once or twice.
