Who will champion the poor against injustice and cruelty?
When fifteen year old Mary flees into the forest to avoid a fearsome marriage arranged by her uncle, she little knows what challenges lie in store for her as the wise and magical Green Lady of the Woods.
In this riveting and action-packed saga, Theresa Tomlinson breathes new life into the story of Robin Hood by focusing attention on the women who live with the outlaws: women who will pull a bowstring and stand up against the cruel laws of Medieval England.
About the Author
Theresa Tomlinson and her husband live in North Yorkshire. Over the years Theresa has acquired an outstanding reputation for her historical novels. Shortlisted twice for the Carnegie Medal and for the Sheffield Children's Book Award, she takes a keen interest in the north-east coast of England. Recent visits to Turkey have fuelled her enthusiasm for the ancient mythology of that part of the world. Her scrupulous research has resulted in two epic stories in which classic tales and imaginative re-enactment make a stunning impact.
Customer Reviews
An excellent read!
This is a really good book, definitely buy it! A perfect re-telling of the Robin Hood legend, this story concentrates on the women behind the stories, not the men. You really get to know the characters, really begin to feel for them, ther are so many characters, yet all of them appeal to you. Throughout the books, you recognise many of the familiar characters, which have been given a new identity for these books. For example, you recognise John as being Little John, Brother James as Friar Tuck, and many other characters from the legends. Definitely buy this book now!
An excellent read
There have been quite a few books in recent years focusing on Maid Marian. Theresa Tomlinson's portrayal is easily the best of them. She finds a new dynamic role for Marian that makes her more than a self-doubting romance novel heroine or simply a generic Merry Man. Her Marian is an interesting parallel to Robin Hood.
Marian and her friends (and family) make excellent role models for girls... and boys.
And don't let the young adult status prevent grown-ups from reading this book. It's better written than most "adult" Robin Hood books.
The Most Amazing Book in the History of Books
