BBC Mystery at its best
By and large, the BBC does pretty well at dramatised versions of classic mysteries, both on radio and on TV - Lord Peter Wimsey, Miss Marple (the original series), etc. And the Inspector Alleyn series is right up there with the best.

Please note, however, that this particular set of DVDs is actually the complete Region 2 version of the already issued first and second Region 1 boxed sets.

So for the benefit of Anglophile, and anyone else with the same concern, these 4 disks each feature 2 episodes, consisting of (not necessarily in order):

1. Death at the Bar
2. Death in a White Tie
3. Dead Water
4. A Man Lay Dead
5. Nursing Home Murder
6. Final Curtain
7. Hand in Glove
8. Scales of Justice

And it doesn't get much better than this :)

Amazon should provide a list of episodes
I really enjoy the Inspector alleyn series and have purchased sets 1 & 2. This new release does not state "set 3" and it is not possible to determine if this is just a re-release of all the episodes in sets 1 & 2 in one compilation set. I can only find sets 1 & 2 listed on the BBC web site. It would help if the Amazon reviewer listed the episodes so that one can compare. This used to happen but recently such detail is missing. If you own sets 1 & 2 I would caution against purchasing this until Amazon provide customers with the necessary information.

charming gentleman detective.
The dvd has all the episodes from the series,but no extras ! The quality of the acting in this series is superb, from dry wit to gentle humour, with a soulful leading man. The period is beautifully captured, and the plots well written.If you enjoyed "Midsummer Murders " or " Miss Marple " you will throughly enjoy this collection.
