We love The Prisoner and would recommend you get them all. A little like Lost but made in the sixties.

Synopsis
THE PRISONER, the influential cult classic science-fiction British television series, chronicles the adventures of a former government operative -- known only as "Number 6" (McGoohan) -- after he is imprisoned in an idyllic settlement filled with cameras following his every move. Number 6 is faced with the challenge of fighting to retain his identity along with his physical and mental strength while trying to find out where he is, who he can trust, and if there is a way to escape. Meanwhile the elusive and powerful Number 2 wishes to break the prisoner down, and his pursuit is relentless. This collection contains the episodes "Arrival," "The Chimes of Big Ben," "A, B and C," and "Free for All."

Television at it's best.5
This has to be one of the most thought-provoking television series ever made and despite the countless TV re-runs and re-issues on video, the release on DVD was greatly anticipated.

Patrick McGoohan plays the part of a man who resigns from his top-secret position of an unknown agency, but is soon abducted and imprisoned in a place called The Village. The reason? Why did he resign? Stripped of his name and now known only as Number 6, the prisoner makes various attempts to escape from The Village and struggles to prevent his captors from extracting this information. Such a simple story line and yet after watching all 17 episodes, the viewer is still left with more questions than answers and maybe that's where it's long standing appeal lies.

First televised in the late 60's, this show has many devotees and fan clubs, but this cult status shouldn't put off the first time viewer. I guarantee that you'll be totally enthralled by it. As for its release on DVD, the picture and sound quality are first rate and although the extra footage and Prisoner facts on each disk may be old news for Prisoner aficionados, I'm sure that they'll be welcomed by those first time viewers in their search for more answers!

A sure fire hit for all.

A self assured start4
A secret agent (Patrick Mcgoohan) resigns from his post for reasons unknown. Shortly afterwards, he is kidnapped and taken to a mysterious prison - known as "The Village" run by the unseen Number One. Our hero is identified, but never accepted, as "Number Six". The warders want information, but our Prisoner is not so forthcoming - and, over the course of 17 episodes, they will try to break his spirit and make him accept his part in society.

This TV show isn't for everyone - But, it you're interested in the programme enough to research it at Amazon, it's probably for YOU. Constantly surreal, frequently confusing and - ever so occasionally - rather lame.

Yes, it's a well known fact that, as time went on, The Prisoner lost it's edge. The episodes became less effective, and the imagery that had been raised in the early episodes went missing. Still, since this is Volume One : we shouldn't worry.

This DVD contains "Arrival", a beatifully self-assured premiere that sets the tone for much of the following episodes. Number 6 learns about his new home, and quickly plans an escape. Meanwhile, the mysterious Number 2 - who will be replaced time and time again - tries to get that valuable info... Rating : 3/5

"The Chimes Of Big Ben", is the second episode and a strong one to boot. Number 6 finds an unlikely ally, and plots a daring escape. Again...Rating : 4/5

"A. B. And C." Presents a change in pace for the series : The new Number Two attempts to get the required information by manipulating the Prisoner's dreams. Utterly mad, but all the better for it....Rating : 4/5

The weak link on this DVD is 'Free For All' in which Number 6 stands for election. Presumably a satire on democracy, it is interesting - if not fascinating, but let down by a slow pace...Rating : 2/5
