Synopsis
Written for the BHS by a chief examiner, this handbook provides clear guidelines on how the skills of riding should be conducted. Aimed at qualified and trainee riding instructors, the manual provides advice on a range of subjects, including teaching adult novices and children, whether in groups or one-to-one; effective communication and body language; how to organise lessons; choosing school horses and keeping them happy in their work; safety and insurance; dealing with riding problems, such as nervousness, stiffness, poor co-ordination, and poor balance; and how to cope with mishaps and accidents. The author, a coach, dressage judge and competitor, offers advice based on over 20 years experience of training career students and competition partnerships and teaches both in the UK and overseas.
