DVD Description
Stella Street is a comedy of the foibles and feuds of celebrity existence. Phil Cornwell and John Sessions play multiple roles as a group of celebrities who, tired of the pressures of life in the spotlight, all move to a street in suburban south London. Joining Phil Cornwell and John Sessions is the multi-faceted Ronni Ancona. One by one the various superstars - Michael, Jack, Al, Mick Keith, David, Joe and briefly, Dustin, move into Stella Street to escape their Hollywood A-List lives. They settle down to domestic bliss far from their natural habitats - Mick and Keith take over the corner store, Al supervises the gardener, Joe has trouble with the decorator and while David cannot fathom plumbing, Jack birds it up. Things start to go wrong after a fancy dress street-warming party, thrown by Michael with guests that include Madge, Posh and Penelope, when the stars are encouraged to entrust their wealth to a titled financial advisor. Faced with financial ruin, they discover that the perks of the celebrity lifestyle that they left behind weren't all that bad after all!

Synopsis
In an effort to escape the pressures of stardom, some of the world's most famous celebrities move to THE GOOD LIFE country, Surbiton, to a nondescript STELLA STREET. Michael Caine, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Dustin Hoffman all live down this road, along with other celebrities, oh and some ordinary working class people as well. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards own, and work in, the corner shop. Everyone gets along, after a fashion, until a financial advisor persuades everyone to hand over control of their finances to him. When this goes horribly wrong, the stars decide their old lifestyle wasn't so bad after all! Continuing the wonderful premise of the original TV shorts, this full length movie starring the spot-on impersonations of the stellar cast at home doing their mundane chores is classic comedy.

Stella Street - The film
Im amazed at the bad reviews to stella street - i couldnt stop laughing throughout the whole feature - although ive never seen the series and i expect my opinion would be lower if i discovered the material was the same as the series. Whenever jack's cleaner vacuums up his vast coke lines off the sitting room table always has me in stitches ...
Stella Street - you get it or you don't
I felt obliged to redress the imbalance in the "Stella Street - The Movie" reviews (1 good, 2 bad). As one of those people who finds very little amusing, Stella Street is a real God-send. It is bizarre and implausible - at times it is a bit irritating (the Jimmy Hill role, for example, is pointless). But the impersonations (e.g. Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino) are outstanding and the idea that they would all de-camp to Surbiton provides an endless stream of laughs. Okay, there's not much plot, but for those looking for a little in the way of content and originality in their comedy, Stella Street is a great source of chuckles. The introduction with the Beatles and Mr and Mrs Jagger is excellent, and Ronni Ancona adds an extra dimension to the equally brilliant TV series.
Feature-length movie of life in the Street...
Stella Street is (was) a cult British comedy series from the late 1990's, comprising short (10 minute) episodes recounting the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of Stella Street, Surbiton (a London suburb), that is home to some of the most famous people from stage and screen from the past 40 years. Played (impersonated) brilliantly by the multi-talented John Sessions ('Whose Line Is It Anyway?') and Phil Cornwell ('Dead Ringers', 'I'm Alan Partridge'), the Street is literally awash with celebs, present, past and past-it.
This movie is essentially a feature-length episode, and is a brand-new story from the Street that has never been seen on the TV before. All the regulars are here. Michael Caine, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (who run the grocer shop), David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Jimmys Saville and Hill, to name but a few, are joined also by the award-winning Ronnie Ancona ('Alastair McGowan's Big Impression') in female roles.
The DVD promises to be packed with extra features, including a 'Making Of...' documentary, and an exclusive episode of 'Lost Movie Classics' where Michael Caine (Cornwell) discusses his lost movie classic, 'Bongo In The Congo' (presumably this was after 'Get Chisholm'....as Michael says in the TV series of the latter, "Straight to video, straight to dustbin...")
After enjoying the brilliant 'Series Three' on DVD, I can only lick my lips in anticipation of this movie. Packed with some great character acting and impersonations, and more laughs than you could wave a treeful of sticks at, 'Stella Street' will be a sure-fire hit amongst fans of cult British comedy.
