The greatest UK stand up of his era
Bill Bailey is a vastly underrated stand up here in the UK, while Peter Kay gets all the plaudits not many mention Bill Bailey who I feel is far superior. As soon as you see Bill you feel comfortable and he even looks like a funny man with his long hair which seems to emerge from the BACK of his head and his goatee beard.
This DVD features his first show back in 1996, Cosmic Jam, and also contains a second disk aptly named Bewilderness which was filmed in
Wales. Bill Bailey discusses the weird and wonderful, from Badgers to Garden Sheds, to Cheese on Toast to Cockney music!
At over 3 hours long this DVD is a bargain and is highly reccomended!
The pheasant has no agenda
It's hard to believe that the Cosmic Jam show featured in this DVD set is actually a decade old. Being Bill's first ever live performance, we can witness the makings of a man who would soon undoubtedly become one of Britain's finest stand-up acts.
He slots right into the flow of things despite his initial nerves (if you can call it that), and whether he's hammering at a keyboard, turning his hands into an animal puppet role-play, or going off on a random tangent about weasels that must leave the audience frightened and confused, he always exudes the aura of a born, natural performer.
The second disc contains a more recent gig 'Bewilderness', which is equally if not more entertaining than the title performance, with some hilarious observations on owls, service stations (AKA cathedrals of despair) and Stephen Hawking, not to mention a rare performance of a selection of 80s hits on the kazoo.
For those who have seen the equally brilliant 'Part Troll' show, a couple of the jokes will be familiar on both discs, but the rest is entirely new material.
Bill is a joy to watch, a fascinating and intelligent creature who excels at picking apart his own little world with comedic genius. And don't miss out on the 'Which Shed?' game on the Bewilderness disc, not to mention the equally amazing biography.
Su-really brilliant
Just finished watching Cosmic Jam - had to write a review as I've not laughed so much since I don't remember when! A couple of things he'd said - not particularly jokes in themselves, just had me laughing for ten minutes at a time and had to stop the DVD. He tells three jokes in parallel! I actually suspect that Bill had been a little 'light headed', lets say, when he did this performance. It just adds to it. It's brilliant and I'm going to have to get his other stuff.
