Synopsis
As law-abiding citizens mysteriously go on looting and killing sprees, an LA Cop learns from an alien masquerading as an F.B.I. agent that unfriendly aliens are inhabiting these innocent Earthlings' bodies. A surpisingly inventive and witty film.

Something of a hidden gem
I feel slightly compelled to write this review to balance out the single other one on this page, and to display my enthusiasm that this film has eventually been released on DVD in the UK. The film is not a classic and it's not particularly original. But for a cheap Sci-Fi flick it provides a lot of entertainment and more importantly a lot of dry, observational humour that you wouldn't expect from a Hollywood action flick. Perhaps that's why it's stayed under the radar so much. Although the film eventually degenerates into fairly standard run and gun action fare, the first half is excellent entertainment as we see this alien creature inhabiting different bodies and going after whatever it wants. As a satire on 80's consumerism it works much better than the pedestrian, deadly serious They Live, in fact its the light touch this film has that makes it so endearing. Kyle Machlachlan is likeable vacant as the friendly alien disguised as a cop, and there's some very funny supporting performances. Definately worth renting.

The Hidden DvD
Although quite and old film (1987) The Hidden is still up there with some of the more recently released sci-fi movies. The special effects are still very good. The acting and the story are both well worth watching.
If you liked The Thing with Kurt Russell I'm sure you'll enjoy this movie.

Dire!
I bought this because of the glowing reviews here, and feel a bit let down by them. I'll confess I only watched half - it was excruciating! It's just so dumb, and lacking any credibility. Was it meant to be funny..?

If there really were aliens rampaging around town in human form killing dozens of folk, the FBI would surely do more than send in one lone agent to liaise with the local police, wouldn't they? Or was that funny too?
