Makes SKYPE useable
Excellent piece of kit. Simply plug into your phone line and a USB port on your computer and Skype becomes easy! All you Skype contacts are shown on the LCD. Should you want to use SkypeOut all that nonsense about adding +44 to UK calls is redundant, just enter the number as usual. The only difference is you leave the area on for local calls.
Until you get a truly stand alone Skype phone that is not reliant on a computer, this is the best solution.
Great buy
If you are a regular Skype user then you should not be without this device. It works seamlessly and well with your PC's Skype connection as well as flawlessly as an everday cordless phone.
I have chatted to friends in China and Poland from the garden of my UK house with a crystal clear Skype connection. Just enter a number and choose one 'Send' button to dial normally or the other 'Send' button to dial via Skype. It rings with separate tones for incoming Skype or landline calls and even allows you to hold simultaneous conversations on both systems.
Downside? Well, you have to visit the website on a regular basis to check for software updates to integrate with new versions of Skype. Also, a few more ring tones or the option to import external ringtones would be nice. Also, the mono LCD screen is a bit dim sometimes. Otherwise - 100%
The Olympia Dualphone
I brought my dualphone in November 2005 and have no regrets. It has all the standard functions of a digital cordless phone plus the ability to connect to a PC via an USB port. This enables it to be fully compatiable with Skype and even show you who is online on its backlit lcd text screen. The phone enables you to make free skype to skype calls and Skype out calls away from the computer in another room. The dual phone web site has regular updates. Two minor negative points are your computer has to be switched on in order to use the Skype service and the software does not automatically update, so you have to visit the web site and check for updates yourself. Over all I think this is an excellent product and currently the best available cordless phone for Skype as it allows you to manage both standard landline and Skype calls. Theoretically if everyone you knew subscribed to skype you would never have to pay for a phone call ever again!
