Average customer review:Product Description
The Northern Soul scene was exciting, amphetamine-fast and resolutely underground. Spread almost exclusively by word-of-mouth, it managed to avoid the attention of a national press, preoccupied as ever, with events in the capital. "The In Crowds" charts and celebrates the extraordinary story of, what was once, one of the best kept secrets of the early '70s. The first volume begins with the hip R&B collectors, mods and Motown fans who took the Golden Era of 60s Soul as a blueprint for this astonishing culture. The foreword is written by soul journalist Dave Godin, credited with first penning the term Northern Soul, and compiler of the critically acclaimed Deep Soul Treasures CDs.

Customer Reviews
Excellent for those wanting to be educated, or to re-educate
As someone who is far too young to have experienced Northern Soul's hayday the first time round, this book gave me a doorway into the scene, and blasted me with facts, images and useful insights. Although a little bit confusing on the first read, due to my complete lack of knowledge on anything within the scene, by the time a picked up the book for a second time i felt i understood what was going on a little bit more and thoroughly enjoyed every page! This is a must for anyone who wants to take their first steps into the Northern Soul scene, and also for anybody wanting to re-educate themselves on a scene that is filled with music lovers and great music.
