2007 saw the emergence of a brand new job role in the residential property sector: the Domestic Energy Assessor. An Energy Performance Certificate is now required as part of a Home Information Pack whenever a domestic property is constructed, sold or rented out in England and Wales, and this can only be produced by an accredited and suitably qualified Domestic Energy Assessor. "The Domestic Energy Assessor's Handbook" is designed for a wide range of aspiring and experienced practitioners and will help you to: understand the new role of the Domestic Energy Assessor; identify the best qualification route; develop core background knowledge; carry out effective inspections of residential properties; apply an appropriate energy efficiency rating to all domestic buildings; and, provide recommendations for future energy saving. Whatever your professional background or technical experience, if you want to be an effective Domestic Energy Assessor, then this book is essential reading.

DEA Handbook - Highly Recommended!
I have attended and enjoyed some of Larry Russen's lectures and was greatly enthused to find out that he had co written a book with Phil Parnham. The first book of its kind (other than accreditation scheme training manuals), this text is an essential tool for all students and practitioners going through the process of preparing Energy Performance Certificates (or EPC's) for domestic properties as part of the governments Home Information Pack (or HIP's) programme. Domestic energy assessment requires a fair degree of technical knowledge and I think the book provides an excellent reference point and revision aid. Larry and Phil's, 'real world' approach to this new industry is both pragmatic and informative. There are lots of colour photographs in addition to a lively narrative which has plenty of useful and interesting content. I think the book is worth every penny and have no hesitation in recommending it.
A really useful revision text and something for future use.
My Energy Assessor training provider provides good quality course work notes but also single this book out as required reading. Some fellow students seem to have avoided the expense (and it's not cheap training as an Energy Assessor) but I think in error. The text is friendly, helpful and clear. It often goes much further than some of the other technical texts that are central to this subject (such as RdSAP training manuals) and brings with it a 'real world of the surveyor' approach which I found helpful and reassuring. I had baulked at paying the full RRP but my price cutting online purchase and the benefits in use have made this an excellent investment and one which I anticipate using as daily reference material for some time to come.
