Editorial Reviews
From the Author
When i first published this book in 1994 i never anticipated
how popular it would become. A second edition followed in 2001 , this
itself was updated and expanded to 300 pages in november 2005!. My primary
aim was for the book to be used by owners of property in France to enable
them to liase with architects , builders and local artisans. From the
feedback received i know many of you also use it when shopping at the local
bricolage stores for your DIY projects. I was particularly pleased when the
authors of the excellent 2004 book "How to renovate a House in France" not
only recommended this dictionary but also asked permission to use small
excerpts from it. A more recent review stated "Worth its weight in gold ,
this 300 page dictionary is a must for a successful project". I do hope you
will find it as useful as many thousands of others have. A.S.L

Customer Reviews
very useful content, presentation a little disappointing
Building or renovating in France, this book will save you hours in the diy stores, even if you already speak good french. Having the technical words for products saves you having to describe the usage and features to shopt staff if you speak french and is absolutely invaluable if you don't. It is simply laid out and easy to find things, trade by trade.
I was just disappointed at the presentation. I bought this book as a gift and next to the beautiful hard cover english-french dictionary I got for myself at the same time, this book seemed a little small and insignificant. For the price of £27 I think a hardcover and slightly better presentation would make for improved value for money. Also, some information about some of the major regulation differences in France compared to the UK would also be useful but maybe this would merit a whole other book.
Well Worth Buying if your Renovating or Building a New House
I am married to a UK builder who since we bought a house to renovate in France has never had it out of his hands!!
A must if your to renovate or new build and cannot speak French, through this book my hubby has become quite good at French, even though its mostly only in building terms!
He loved the soft back and size because its mostly in his pockets folded in half.
a must reference
This book is an absolute must of you are working in the building trade or renovating a property in France. It's very comprehensive for each of the trades, translating in both directions. you'll never have to go through the 'trial and error' phase or trying to explain to the builders merchant in a round about way while he looks on bemused..."Les Anglais, merde!" The only thing wrong is it's enormous price!!
