Manufacturer's Description
Lock & Lock are the originators of the 100% air and liquid-tight food storage container concept, with the distinctive snap-down locking hinges and silicone seal.
The four-hinged lids have each been tested to open and close more than 3 million times, to guarantee reliabilty, and the hollow silicone seal in the rim of the lid has superior compression and restoration properties to ensure an airtight seal.
Lock & Lock containers have endless uses around the home, not just for food storage ie kid's toys, in the garage, DIY, sewing, first aid, organising drawers, etc, etc.

5.5 litre lock and lock (without insert)
I have used lock and lock containers for a number of years and have found them to be reliable and robust, even when both base and lid are washed in the dishwasher. My containers will probably have each gone through the dishwasher more than 100 times without any detriment to their performance.
This particular item is large and I have found it ideal for storing large quantities of fruit salads. This container can also be purchased with a plastic insert that rests in the base, which is ideal for storing salads for example, as water can drain through the insert and sit in the base of the container preventing lettuce from going soggy.
The only negative I have about the entire range in general is that the containers use up a lot of space in the cupboard as their design does not easily allow storage - items that are the same size will not stack one inside the other because they have straight sides. In this case, whilst containers of the same size cannot be stacked inside each other, this one is large and several other containers from the range can be stored inside.
