Product Description

This absorbing children s television drama follows four friends Flavia, Nubia, Jonathan and Lupus as they struggle to live through one of history s most turbulent times. With many comparisons to the lives of youngsters today, they deal with issues of prejudice, violence and the environment wrapped up in riveting stories of mystery and suspense. For differing reasons, each of the lead children is seen by Roman society as a misfit, an outsider, which helps strengthen the bond between them. What lies at the heart of each episode, whether they are dealing with erupting volcanoes, assassins or plague, is the strength of their friendship. Based on the million-selling books by Caroline Lawrence, this lavish production stars Simon Callow (Four Weddings And A Funeral, Shakespeare In Love, A Room With A View) as Pliny.

Modern classic?5
My daughter adores the Roman Mysteries books and avidly watched the BBC series when it came out, now she can enjoy them again and again.
Great production and cast. Looking forward to series 2 next.

brilliant5
if you read the books and are worried that this will be a superficial rendition or acted by wooden kid actors you'd be wrong. The books are abridged of course to be made into these 30 minute episodes, but each episode is exciting and visually stunning. The children are believable and the moral dilemmas still there and the historical detail still interesting. My children who read and loved the books really enjoy sitting down together with me to watch this series and want to know why there is no series 2!!
