DVD Description
This is the 2002 BBC production of the classic tale Stig of the Dump. Barney a young shy boy who, with only his older sister for company, is spending a lonely summer with his grandparents when he makes the discovery of his life. He's chased by the village bullies and tumbles down an overgrown quarry. There, in the magical world of the quarry floor, he meets a figure with shaggy hair and two bright eyes. Stig is a caveman, hundreds of thousands years old, but gradually he and Barney learn to understand one another.
Together they raid the rubbish dump at the bottom of the quarry, using the things the villagers throw away to improve Stig's cave, and so begins a special friendship, and a story which has charmed children and adults alike ever since it was first published in 1963.
Full of wonderful special effects from the creators of beasts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, this production won an International Emmy Award and a BAFTA.

Stig of the Dump
Absolutly superb. Tom Sangster plays the part of Barny really well and the theme music is, if anything, a little bit haunting but is one of my personal favourites. The story follows Barney as he tries to escape the school bullies and falls of a cliff into a quarry. whilst there, he meets a strange man (Stig) Who untangles Barney from the brambles that he'd been tangled in. From there, it is a story of friendship. Strongly reccomended.
TOP OF THE HEAP
Stig of the Dump has always been one of my favourite childrens books, and this series does not disappoint. At last this superb series is on DVD, my 8 year old and I have watched it with great delight, not completely true to Clive King's book but really well acted and a great production.
Stig is the caveman that Barney discovers after falling into his den in the local quarry. Barney is soon getting into all sorts of mischief to help his new friend who in turn comes to Barney's rescue more than once with plenty of laughs along the way. Of course none of Barney's family believe in Stig but he wins his sister round to help Stig get back to his own time with plenty of laughs, and few bits younger viewers may find a little scary but you can't go wrong with this classic family viewing. It won't be long before we watch it again. Excellent. If you remember reading this story as a child with pleasure you will really enjoy watching STIG, wishing he was your best friend.
Highly recommended
I watched this series with my 10 year old son and we both thought it was a great story. The filming is very well done.
