Editorial Reviews
From the Author
This book is easy-to-read, the style sensitive, the tone uplifting. The diet recommended is not offered as a 'cure-all', but as a way to help your body to begin healing itself.
About the Author
Christine Craggs-Hinton is the author of the very successful Living with Fibromyalgia and The Fibromyalgia Healing Diet.
Customer Reviews
No understanding of science. Dangerous mumbo jumbo
What Craggs-Hinton thinks qualifies her to write this book I have no idea. She certainly has no understanding of elementary science, food or medicine.
Unlike her I have a science degree from a top university. I am a former athlete with a good understanding of nutrition and I have many years of first hand experience managing ME/CFS.
Microwaves are a godsend to ME/CFS sufferers but Craggs-Hinton with her medievialism disagrees. She writes
"there is evidence that their use can depress the immune system. Microwaves heat food by vibrating the molecules of the food together to produce heat . However, this process damages the food at the DNA level, which in turn damages bodily DNA. "
If anything, microwaves are more healthy than other ovens as they don't burn food. Burnt food contains carcinogens (cancer causing agents). By targeting water within food and reducing the cooking time, microwave ovens can preserve more of the foods nutrients. Microwaves penetrate foods better than other ovens, reducing the risk of food poisoning. All chemists and biologists will tell you that there is no way for damaged DNA in food to damage Human cells.
Craggs-Hinton goes on to pronounce a range of healthy foods as being unhealthy. These include
Bread
Cheese
Yeast extract
Dried fruit
Vinegar
Stock cubes
Mushrooms
Chocolate with sugar in it (is there any other kind?)
Cake
Yoghurt.
Interestingly she includes 2 recipes for smoothies, made from yoghurt and 3 recipes for cakes. So much for her own advice.
I will be writing to the publishers and all the ME organisations, to see what I can do get this author censored in future. ME is a horrible condition. We don't need this ignorant writer making life even harder for people.
A fascinating insight into the world of healing foods
The Chronic Fatigue Healing Diet aims to help and advise CFS/ME sufferers on how to strengthen their immune system.
Part One is set into eight Chapters, including:
- Beginning To Make Changes for the Better
- Vital Nutrients
- Foods to Avoid
- Toxin Overload
Part Two consists of 32 pages of Healing Recipes, many of which are suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans.
I would like to mention Chapter 6: The Detoxification Programme, which aims to remove toxins from your body using cleansing fuel in the form of Fruit, Vegetables, Juices and Water.
Christine explains the benefits of such foods by listing individual fruit and vegetables along with relevant information. She outlines the vitamin content along with their Detoxification Properties. She goes on to explain the pros and cons of other foods, such as Grains, Pulses, Nuts & Seeds, and Herbs.
The chapter moves on to everything you need to know about a 21-day detoxification programme. The chapter ends with suggested menus for your first week of the detoxification.
To conclude, this is a simple but fascinating insight into the world of healing foods!
