Customer Reviews

we need a new simply the best vhs/dvd...3
This 1991 release contains most of the hits from Tina Turner between 1983 and 1991. It's disappointing however to see that some of her best video's have not been included. Instead of the great video for "Typical Male"(1986) we get a live version recorded in 1990 in Barcelona. The same goes for "We don't need another hero"(1985) which must be one of the most spectacular video's from Turner directed by George Miller...This video is still not available on any format today. If we want live versions than we will buy the excellent "Live from Barcelona" or "Wildest dreams in Amsterdam" tapes. Plus where are the hits "Two people", "Help", "Acid Queen", "Way of the world" (which was included on the US laserdisc version of Simply the best). Also we are now in the year 2000...we need an update with "I don't wanna fight", "Goldeneye", "Disco inferno", "whatever you want", "Silent wings", "Missing you", "When the heartache is over", "Something beautiful remains", "whatever you need", "Why must we wait until tonight", the never officially released video of "In your wildest dreams" and the Eros duet "Can't stop thinking of you"... Let's face it ...Simply the best of 1991 isn't Turner's "Simply the best" anymore in 2000

Simply the best!...More like simply the same as the Vhs!3
Okay like many other people I was ecstatic that Tina Turner Simply the best was going to be released one DVD.
Okay Re-released but that is exactly what Emi, Capitol did. Probably to make a bit of money out of Tina.
I didn't previously own the video so I got this just a few months ago.
This lady is a legend and her on a old scraggy videotape would look great and maybe that's what they thought when they made this. I don't mean to put you off but picture and sound quality do vary at times here. The video for What's love got to do with it has a great picture quality but poor sound as they have strained it through Dolby 5.1 surround, If you want to play it though 5.1 you have to turn it up really loud and have the TV speakers on! Also you can just choose Dolby 2.0 stereo, which actually sounds better. Oh and other examples could be the poor picture quality on Private dancer and not so great sound to go with it. The quality on my private dancer EP video is better than this.
I mean they could have remastered this put the videos of We don't need another hero and Typical male on instead of live performances from 1990's Foreign affair tour. And the video's for new at the time songs Way of the world and I want you near me.
This DVD is satisfactory though the menu is a bit dodgy with the design of it but it's easy to use. The video for 'The best' starts off with what I'd say would've been the original opening of the VHS release, which for the first 5 or so seconds shows the front cover of the 'Simply the best' album.
But if you don't have this already, and want Tina's best video's get it, it's not so bad and bearable, but hopefully in the future we will have an anthology of her videos all remastered and with great special features and video versions instead of videos...Call this a video collection well nearly.
Anyways it's not bad really I grew to love it. Its Tina go on

it could have more video clips and less live performances3
well, if somebody like me, buy all the best from tina turner, will expect more original video clips and not some live performance.anless that I would watch live performance, I will bought tina turner live from amsterdam.and the dvd box could have a booklet with some photos, biography and discography from tina. well its a shame... and that is the handycap of a lot dvd music.
