Paris. The most romantic city in the world, and a city with an amazingly rich cultural history. From the Renaissance to the French Revolution, from the construction of the Eiffel Tower to Mitterrand's grands projets, Paris has borne witness to extraordinary people and events over the centuries. And who better to explore the French capital's cultural past than Sandrine Voillet. Art historian, cultural commentator, Parisian, she's as chic and elegant as the city she adores. In this fascinating and highly original portrait of Paris, Sandrine shares her passion for a city indelibly marked by change and revolution. Travelling through 400 years of cultural history, Sandrine introduces the people and events that have shaped Paris into the breathtaking spectacle we see today. Part travelogue, part cultural history and part inside guide to 'hidden' Paris, "Sandrine's Paris" is lavishly illustrated with over 100 beautiful images that capture the magic of the City of Lights.

Art historian and Parisienne Sandrine Voillet guides us through
the city she adores. Painting a wonderful portrait of Parisian life, she
describes how a rich and glorious cultural past from Renaissance to
Revolution from communards to Centre Pompidou has assured Paris a place in
everyone's heart. From the breathtaking rose windows and gothic facade of
Notre Dame through to the boulevards of Baron Haussmann and the distinctive
wrought-iron metro entrances of Art Nouveau architect Hector Guimard,
beautiful pictures capture the distinctive character of the French capital.
This book, part travelogue, part cultural history, accompanies her BBC2
series, Paris.

Customer Reviews
Paris...
The television series was brilliant as is the book. Excellent illustrations and interesting commentary. The book provides an insight into Paris from an insiders point of view! As I am moving to Paris later this year I've found the suggestions for Museums and the information on culture truly fascinating!!
A must if you are interested in all things Paris.
Perfect for Any Coffee Table
This book is a wonderful accompliment to the DVD of the same name. It is also a beautifully produced coffee table book. It covers areas of Paris not touched on by most city based picture books. A good coverage of the unusual and the rarely visited.
