Product Description

This amusing travelogue describes the adventures of three intrepid inter-railers who endure water cannons, arrests, undesirables and each other during a hot, sticky month that left most of the continent dazed, confused and smelling of "inter-rail feet".

Editorial Reviews

Adventure Travel
‘A breath of fresh air in the overly serious business of travel writing.’

Stephen Fry
A most entertaining read.

From the Publisher
An enjoyable and cheeky romp around Europe
Be prepared to come off the moral high ground as you follow three 'up-for-it' young men across Europe. I defy anyone who does not find themself chuckling at Bassett and Ferris's sardonic and cheeky wit...In 'Don't Lean Out of the Window', culture is left behind while anything , or anyone, foreign, is at the mercy of these guys satire.

Both men and women will revel in this read - men because of the hilarious (and it really is) schoolboy humour, and women, because they will be quietly amused at the (mainly futile) efforts of these boys in attracting the opposite sex. Anyone who has been inter-railing on a tight budget will relish this book - but the experience is by no means a prerequisite.

Customer Reviews

Dissapointing2
I read this book hoping there would be something really interesting, as I have Inter-railed in the past and really enjoyed it. Instead I was dissapointed at the characters filthy habits and lack of respect for any environment or people. I was sickened - not amused - when one of them writes "the sea was a beautiful rich blue....I figured the odd turd would not do any harm". Did they not realise how racist they come across and unpleasant to the point of nastiness to other travellers who were not blond Dutch girls? I have travelled widely and its people like them who make journeys that bit worse. They were totally ignorant and uninterested in any of the beautiful countries they travelled through - the journey was wasted on them. In all, the 'boys' represented the very worst of British culture and its people like them who give Brits such a bad name abroad.

Desperate1
Having really enjoyed inter-railing in the early 90s, I was looking forward to reading something that brought positive memories back of the experience and even some of the places. What I didnt want was a puerile, poorly written load of tosh, which is what this can be summed up as. I suppose it did remind me of some of the allegedly educated fellow-countrymen I met (and tried to avoid) along the way.

I need to go inter-railing again now to forget the memory of reading this!

Morons1
What a bunch of dross, how these morons even got published is a mystery to me. They had no interest in the culture of the countries they visited whatsoever, only where the local Mcdonalds was, their small minded views are staggering.
It is imature fools like these three that give Brits travelling abroad a bad name, they should have their passports confiscated and never be able to darken another countries borders again.
