Customer Reviews
NOT EXCELLENT BUT STILL GOOD!!
What makes this second awaited album by Wolfmother less so called 'seriously fun' than their debut self titled album is the obvious absence of drummer Myles Heskitt who brought to the first album great drum solos and hard hitting tempos throughout that allowed for both Myles and fellow guitarist/vocal man Andrew Stockdale to collectively play to their highest potential.
The Cosmic Egg album highlights this absence with new drummer David Atkins not fulfilling that drum role which gives the album a 'fun' rather than 'seriously fun' feel. That said this hasn't stopped me from going to see them in Jan '10.
Cosmic Egg is still an enjoyable album and would reccommend Wolfmother fans to buy it.
Guess the source
The long awaited second album is not bad but neither is it up to the high standards that the self-titled debut delivered.
As you would expect there are elements of Rolling Stones, Zep and Who throughout the album. You could hear these influences in the previous album but unfortunately this time they are more obvious. In fact, it could become quite annoying as you listen! Personally, I found that it can become quite a fun game to try and recollect where I heard that riff or chord sequence before.
The 4 extra tracks on the deluxe version are quite good; particularly Caroline, a lovely slow number that builds, and Eyes Open.
Overall this is worth a listen but it does not sustain repeated plays.
Wolfmother Return with Cosmic Egg!
When wolfmother broke up last year I thought all was lost, but I was overjoyed when i heard they had reformed :) The new album is amazing in several ways: Firstly, the return of the catchy riffages we all grew to love from the first album, the soaring vocals from andrew stockdale (Robert Plant/ Ozzy Osbourne esque.), and the loud prominent bass lines. I really enjoyed Cosmic Egg, with Caroline being my top track. It is a must have album for all wolfmother fans and people who just want to have a hard rocking album. 5 stars all round :) Buy it! You wont regret it.
