Lara, or GM451 as she is known by the government, is a highly trained special agent, bred by the British Secret Service for use on dangerous missions around the world. But her last mission went wrong and now she is being hunted down by an evil drugs baron, Mr Big. Lara must go undercover as a normal dog, 'choose' a family to look after her and await her retrieval by the Secret Service. But can she keep her true identity a secret? Can she thwart the plans of Mr Big? And can she bear to return to government service, after weeks of cosy domestic bliss? After an exciting struggle, Mr. Big is captured and Lara finds a way to stay with her family. But her spying days aren't over completely...

From the Author
I am keen to visit schools to talk about writing in general and Spy Dog in particular. I am more than happy to bring Lara (the dog in the story) so the children can compare the literary character with the real life mutt.
If your school would like to arrange a visit please contact me at andy@artofbrilliance.co.uk
About the Author
Andrew Cope was born in Derby in 1966. He is a teacher, writer and a huge fan of Derby County football club. He really does have a dog called Lara who has one sticky-up ear and came from the RSPCA, but he's not sure if she is actually a highly trained secret agent. Andrew lives with his wife and two children. This is his first book.

Spy Dog's amazing success
I may be a little biased as I feature in the last chapter, taking an emotional assembly when Sophie, Ben and Ollie are reunited with their pet dog BUT I have read this novel to two of my classes at school and they are enthralled by Andrew's skill at spinning a yarn.
He came into our school on Friday to introduce us to Lara, his real life spy dog, and the children were enraptured by his manner. They also loved Lara, a real mutt if ever I saw one!
A highly recommended read for middle juniors, especially reluctant boy readers.
SPY DOG ROCKS!!!!!!
This fantastic book kept my 5 and 7 year olds completely enthralled. It is well written, and easy to read aloud, making the most reluctant reader desperate to find out what happens next. The humour is pitched at a level that children and adults can enjoy; a lovely book to share. We are looking forward VERY much to Spy Dog 2.
My class love this book!
This is one of the few books that has got my weaker readers involved in reading - in fact, last year's class were virtually fighting over the series. Comments such as 'It's not fair. I finished Book 2 last week, and she's hardly started Book 3. Can you ask her to hurry up - or get another copy' were abounding once I had produced the books!
As far as I'm concerned - if a book can get a child interested in reading, it's well worth it!
Keep writing, please, Andrew Cope! My class long to read more of Lara'a adventures!
(Do you visit schools in Essex?)
