Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Recording artist, singer and pianist Harry Connick, Jr., just barely out of his thirties, has released 24 albums under his own name, which have sold 25 million copies around the world. Although he has recorded various genres of music, from traditional pop to instrumental jazz to funk and blues, he has shown a deep and abiding affection for The Great American Songbook. Connick's newest album, Your Songs, both extends this tradition and compliments it. Like his best-selling Only You of 2004, Your Songs consists of Connick singing familiar songs with a full jazz big band and string orchestra, and, as with nearly all of Harry's previous albums, he wrote each of the orchestrations himself. There’s also a special recording of "And I Love Her" featuring Carla Bruni.

Harry, The Real Deal5
Over the past few years it has become fashionable for rock singers, pop singers and even country singers to dip into the Great American Songbook with varying degrees of success. Here, Harry Connick Jr shows himself to be the real deal adding some newer songs to the concept and four classic songs penned by Brits.

One great advantage that this CD enjoys is in the strength of the fifteen selections, there is not an ounce of filler on the entire album. There are the perfectly delivered standards: "All The Way", "Some Enchanted Evening", "Mona Lisa", and "Besame Mucho". Then, tipping his hat to more rock oriented songs we find subtly reworked versions of Taupin & John's "Your Song", Don McLean's "And I Love You So" and Lennon & McCartney's "And I Love Her" plus an alternate version of this number where he duets with Carla Bruni,

The simple beauty of the classics "The Way You Look Tonight", "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" and Ewan McColl's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" are handled with restraint and sophistication.

As singer, piano player, arranger, conductor and producer Connick has wrought one of the albums of the year. Everything about the orchestra and the arrangements smacks of class and, as Harry's voice caresses the lyrics and glides over the melodies, you feel a sense that when he sings the world can't be all bad.

Harry Connick your songs1
This is a lazy waste of time, it is as though he had a spare couple of hours and had nothing else to do.
I was expecting big band production with great rhythms, instead this is like a nobody doing cheap cover versions. This is not the harry Connick i know.
Swing it aint, big orchestration it is not, it would be ideal to put your cup of tea on it, whilst listening to something better, Harry, bring back that big band productions we are used to!!!!
