Chatterjee examines the big failings and even bigger swindles of Iraq's corporate managers, from the dangerous follies of an out-of-touch government-in-exile to the unchecked price gouging by Cheney's successors at Halliburton. Chaterjee contrasts the employment boom of foreign mercenaries with the unemployed locals ripe for recruitment to the resistance. Drawing on years of research and first-hand experience, Chatterjee brings us the dilapidated hospitals, looted ministries, and guarded corporate enclaves that mark the plunderous road to America's free Iraq.

A good intro to the subject
Iraq Inc serves as an excellent intro to current debate on the privatisation of the war and reconstruction in Iraq. Chatterjee uses evidence from his own visits to Iraq, whistleblowers, government reports and the work of other journalists to reveal some of the massive waste and corruption associated with big business going to war in Iraq (not least in the very close ties between most of the major contractors and the Bush administration). The book is in three main parts covering the reconstruction, private security contractors and efforts to build Iraqi democracy.
The book does cover a fair bit of material which will be familiar to regular newspaper readers (Halliburton overcharging for meals and fuel etc.). As this is a very small, and pretty short, book Chatterjee never gets into much depth on his subject which can be a little frustrating. However I can recommend Iraq Inc as a great way to get a quick overview.
