Brilliant
I purchased a Sony sat nav a few months back and hated it - touch screen not responsive even after several presses, poor suction cup etc..

I then searched on here for an different make and read all the reviews and purchased a nuvi 250w last week. Amazon stated estimated delivery of 7th May, but arrived yesterday (2 May) so that was only 4 days with the free postage option. Brilliant service.

The unit is fantastic. The Sony cost me over double the price of this one but did not do anything extra or better. This unit beats it hands down. I got it out of the box, switched it on and it found a signal within 2 minutes ( I live in a rural area where mobile phone signal is patchy ) which was better than I hoped.

I went through the easy to use menus and had set the unit up, programmed my home destination and my favourite addresses in about 10 minutes. The display is great, the cradle and suction cup seem robust and it has found the most far flung and remote destinations (some not even on A-Z's) that I can think of.

This unit has far outweighed my expectations, the touchscreen is great to use, the unit looks nice and the voice is ok to listen to. I can not believe how good this unit is for the price. It does what it's supposed to do, the cradle is cheap if ever needed replacing (not like 129 pounds for the sony cradle!!!!) After making a big mistake buying the sony I spent days looking at every sat nav model and review that I could find and I am so glad that I purchased this model. I still can't believe the price and would have happily paid far more for this excellent unit.

Got what I hoped for - well pleased...
Having had some moron steal my Tom Tom, I took my time before ordering a replacement. decided upon the Nuvi 250W and I'm very impressed.

Upon plugging in, it picked up the satellite/s in the blink of an eye...
the screen display in my opinion is superior to the Tom Tom...
the lady speaking to you is very informative...
if you take a wrong turn, she/it re-calculates much quicker than my previous Tom Tom...
it's lighter and more pocket friendly...
the windscreen mount is better than the Tom Tom...
and unbeknown to me upon ordering, you get an optional dashboard mounting too so as to avoid it being clearly visbile through the screen...

All in all, I am delighted and would recommend this wholeheartedly...

The Tom Tom was very good... the Garmin is better.

Stress Buster
Bought this, my first Satnav, 10 weeks ago after being impressed by a friend's Tom Tom. Spent hours agonising through the mixed reviews of most brands. In the end was guided by average star ratings of Amazon reviewers and haven't regretted that at all! Overall very very happy with it. No problems getting satellite signal (longest wait about 3 mins, but usually pretty much immediate - 30 seconds). After a very short while got used to its foibles like sometimes saying to turn right when it's no more than a right hand bend, and voice instructions sometimes being a little premature (though confusion is avoided by the clear graphics) and the voice and graphics directions overall are excellent and easy on the ears and eyes, especially on wide-screen and its night/day autosetting. It recalculates routes very quickly if you do miss an instruction. The E.T.A. function is also very useful for keeping stress levels down. Even my technophobic wife loves it, especially the clues about which lanes to get into when approaching large junctions. Also ran desparately low on fuel in the countryside and got navigated to nearest forecourt reassurred by the distance indicated being less miles than those left in the tank! Yes, it can on rare occasions take a slightly odd route when one knows a better one, if you really want to test it (but who needs satnav in those circumstances anyway?). Main thing is that it's very reliable. This kit is great value for money with all its features such as finding car parks, hotels, restaurants, food outlets, fuel, hospitals, theatres and ATM machines etc etc. Don't buy a satnav without this! I've yet to use it in Europe, but after last year's stressful escapade around Paris, I can't wait.
