    Customer Reviews

Cheap and cheerful, works ok for us.3
We bought this Tomy monitor set as a cheap second pair of monitors because of interference we were getting with our regular set when away from home. Our first "regular set" is a standard radio tranmitter and receiver but this Tomy unit works using the ring mains as its circuit instead, so isn't subject to the same radio interference and competition. (Though this means it can't take batteries.) As mentioned by another reviewer, the receiver does make somewhat of a humming noise, particularly when turned up to maximum volume, but it's acceptable and unobtrusive enough if you're not trying to sleep in the room with it and are just watching the TV downstairs or have other background noise going on, for example.

As for no volume control on the transmitter, it's true that it has no sensitivity selector unlike our other monitor's transmitter, but it still seems to pick up everything pretty easily. There is a drawback in that the unit has no flex cable, so it has to pick up any noise from wherever the socket is. But with a socket only a few feet away from our baby we can hear his breathing from the receiver in the other room.

It may be that if your ring main circuit has a lot of "noise" on it it could be translated into some of thr crackle and hum the other reviewer seemed to encounter, but it's just a theory. It's "ok" for us and provides us an alternative when we're out and could otherwise be fighting for a signal with other parents' transmitters.

Does exactly what it says - if you follow the instructions!4
It really is 'plug n play' simple, and it certainly doesn't look or feel 'cheap'. Believe me, I've seen enough poorly made foreign products to know. Perhaps as it uses your household wiring system to transmit the signal some properties may have wiring issues and this may be causing the problems. We live in a very old house, and goodness knows how the wiring has been changed over the years, but it works perfectly well for us - and certainly better than I was expecting for the price!

    absolutely fine4
I bought this monitor after spanding nearly £100 on another monitor which just stopped working, I was not going to pay another fortune for a new high tec one so decided to just get this plug in one.
I was suprised at the fact that it is just as good as any other and much cheaper.
It plugs in directly to the wall, so you cant walk around with it, but picks up all sounds from baby's room, even breathing. If you have the parent unit sound level turned up high, you do get some crackling but it is always on low, which is certainly loud enough. It also does not suffer from radio interference like normal monitors and therefore quieter or at least consistent!!
