From the Author
This book started life as information sheets for the many students I have taught over the years. The more I taught the more I came to learn what my student truly wanted to know.
My students encouraged me to put everything together and produce this book, which has been over ten years in creation. I have included information on the traditions of the symbols on the major cards as so much of this has been lost in modern day designs. I have also emphasised how important the numbers are in tarot, so that tarot is alive and not simply a set of meanings that are learnt by rote.
About the Author
Toni Allen has been a tarot reader for over 20 years, and is also an astrologer. She has taught and lectured throughout the UK and now has an international client base.
Customer Reviews
This book rocks!!
For many years i've read a number of books based on the tarot and although they have managed to give me insights into the meanings of each tarot card, I must say, no other book does it better than Toni Allen's! Her approach to the tarot gives a deeper and fulfilling perspective which enlightens your appreciation to develop a better relationship with the tarot, Whether you are a beginner or an advanced user. After reading her book, I have produced excellent results in performing readings in a very short space of time....A DEFINITE 5 STARS!
The only book you'll ever need!
I have read several books on the Tarot and how to read it as well as browsing through many more. None, really, none of the best books for beginners eg.Rachel Pollock's 78 degrees of wisdom, even approach the usefulness of this thick volume. Each card is dealt with in detail and one can quickly get a feel for the Tarot using the basic system Toni discovered. The numbers and elements give an essential grounding from which the infinite variety of life can be read in the cards. I thought I would never really get it but the keywords helped me to read most simple three card spreads... now I just keep pulling cards till I get a result! It is all intuitive and the cards are just a tool to tap this gift. This book shines the light on one's own ability, bringing confidence to even the most timid cats like me. Unearth this treasure trove for yourself! Her own spread is spelled out but total freedom is emphasised. The true philosophy of self-realisation is made available here to all. Experienced readers will also be helped towrds adepthood. A lot of so-called professional readers would do well to go back to school and read this, to understand the reversed meanings for example. The book has it all. Simple, like a key. When I heard from her students [and read her info online] of her amazing accuracy and unerring reliability, as well as warmth and professionalism, The System of Symbols came as no surprise. She has personally informed me that she intends a second edition. But don't hang back for that. First class! BTW The Bach Flower remedies were new to me but are now a valued part of my TLC healing kit. A lovely bonus with each card.
best book on tarot
Even if you really don't care that much about learning Tarot, this book is infinately fascinating. It's all about the human experience, and contains carefully written case histories which really help to embed the meanings of the cards in your mind. This was the break-through book for me, in that I finally started to understand and relate. It's approach to learning the Tarot is practical - you don't have to wade through arcane language, or incomprehensible numerology lessons. It's written in a natural way, and contains just the right amount of information. It also has case histories, which really help to embed the meanings of the cards in your mind. One to keep and to refer to again and again.
