Rabbit trap? Rabbit diner more like
This squirrel trap is also recommended for rabbits, which is what I bought it for.
The trap is meant to work by the rabbit entering the cage and pressing on a plate that trips the door shut behind it. Bait is placed behind the plate to tempt the rabbit over the plate.
Our rabbit grew very fat on all the carrots it ate from the cage, whilst managing not to trip the door. I even tied a carrot stick to the floor of cage with string so that it had to work at it to get it and might trip the trap but no, it still whipped the carrot without sprining the trap.
I also tried placing a stone on the trip plate so that it was mostly weighted down and the rabbit would only have to breathe on it to trip it. Nope, that still didn't work and the carrots were still gone. To add insult to injury, there were some nibbled leaves left in the trap on this occasion that I hadn't put in there, so bunny had clearly taken a packed lunch into the trap, having decided it was a nice safe place to eat dinner.
In my opinion, the pressure required to press the plate down to trip the door is too much for the average rabbit or squirrel (fine for a human and it worked when I pushed it with a stick but not for the rabbit).
