Product Description

Newcastle United and Sunderland football clubs generate a rivalry that assumes a greater importance than any other in English football. Even though 15 miles seperate the rivers Tyne and the Wear, the rivalry is stronger than that which exists even in cities with more than one club. The most detailed history of Newcastle v Sunderland derbies ever produced, it includes match reports of every league and cup derby game between these old rivals with descriptions of every goal scored. Key players are profiled and every player who has played in Tyne-Wear derbies is assessed. This is a book that fans of both the Magpies and the Black Cats cannot be without. Author Alan Candlish is a Magpies fan who was taken by his father to see Newcastle United and Sunderland on alternate weeks.

Unique record for rival fans.5
This is a book that every true fan of Newcastle United or Sunderland should possess. In fact it is the only thing that will unite them. It tells the story of the rivalry between the two clubs with match reports on every team match with the team line-ups, scorers, referees, everything.
It's the sort of book that you can dip in and out of and the author brings to life all the great personalities of both clubs, especially some of those who have played for both sides like Bobby Moncur, Len Shackleton and Paul Bracewell. But you don't have to be from the north east to appreciate this truly definitive book. Also it will solve many arguments between rival fans, as well as dispelling some myths built up over the years about a certain Tyne-Wear derbies.

Saw this book advertised here on Amazon long before it was published, forgot all about it 'till I heard a great review on Radio Newcastle and got hold of a copy.

Whichever side you love to hate, this is a fair and unbiased history of the rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland, going back as far as they do (and a little further). Contains reviews of every match they've ever played against each other and "player of the decade" biogs. Has fascinating in depth stats on all matches and players, I'm sure the trivia box facts will be cropping up in local quizzes for years to come.

Anyone reading this book will know it's not possible to support both teams - come on Mr Candlish, which colours do you really wear?
