    Lab Photos at home!5
I bought this printer from the high street for £189 because I waited and waited for Amazon to get them in stock. Finally I caved, but it's a massive saving from Amazon so if you can wait for them to come in stock then buy it here.

As for the printer itself, one word - AMAZING!!!!!

I have been researching stand alone photo printers, wanting to get one that would give me quality photos, with well-priced refills. The Selphy ES1 fills this role very well.

It's a dye sub printer so the paper has to make 4 passes, one for each colour and a protective film coat. This takes about 1 minute in all per picture. Seems slow I know, but you can set it off and go make a cup of tea.

The final quality is amazing and seriously you think they are proper lab prints. Obviously this will depend on your camera, mines an 8.1 Mega Pixel, so I get some great definition.

One thing this printer offers over others is the different print sizes. Standard 6x4 prints, smaller prints about 3 inches in width, and credit card sized prints. There is also a dedicated black and white cartridge available.

The paper and ink come in one easy pack that you slot into the side, this seems to be unique to this printer in that everything is kept inside the printer, even when not in use. This is a BIG plus! When you want a photo, just switch it on and PRINT! No loading the trey, no blowing dust off the paper, because it's all protected.

The fact everything is stored inside the printer means the footprint taken up is tiny, and to move the paper about the ES1 employs some pretty cool paper moving, it rotates the print 90 degrees then prints.

On board it has the usual printer settings for number of prints, border of borderless etc.

This printer also employs Canons image enhancing software - this is the only thing about the printer I'm not sure about. Basically it's meant to optimise your photos, and it does, but when switched on some photos can come out very dark. Also it seems to ramp up the colours, which is great if you like punchy prints, however it does go a little over board on sky prints, giving a beautiful deep blue sky like you see on travel guides, even on the most dull days. This to me looks a little "Artificial" when you know the sky where you live really doesn't look like that.

So yes I would recommend this printer to anyone that wants easy, fast, lasting photos that look and feel like they are from a lab. Watch the darkness of the prints though, although I think this is common to most dye sub printers, and play with the colour settings if you think the auto enhance looks a little false for you.

Very impressive, easy to use, good price.4
I have been happy with the print quality of my previous inkjet printer, however the short time it takes before the prints start to fade is my opinion a bit useless, i'd heard you can buy special long lasting ink & paper for inkjet printers, but it's hard to come by & to be honest I couldn't be bothered to change the cartridges each time I wanted to print a photo, so I bought this ES1. It prints using dye sublmation, a different technology to the standard inkjet printer most people have at home, basically dye sublimation doesn't use dots to make the image, but layers of colour, this means prints are so much sharper, have better colour rendition. Looked at side by side with a photo from the ES1 & my inkjet printer the difference is striking. Also important to me the prints don't fade after a few months'. I chose this printer because I recently bought a canon camera & I really like it & also because the printer looks cool. This will not replace my inkjet printer, I'll just use that for letters or graphics & when I need to print to A4 size, but as a dedicated postcard size photo printer the ES1 is a really nice little unit.

    GREAT5
I bought this item after reading some reviews all saying that this was a great little printer.
I can honestly say that this printer has been one of the few items i have bought that has totally supassed all my expectations, not only are the photos really great quality but it is so easy to use.
The paper and ink cartrage is a great idea you never have to worry about your ink running out half way through printing something, and at around 20p per photo it is really great value as well.
Another good idea is that you can buy a black and white cartridge so you get great quality b&w prints that aren't made from process CMYK colours.
So if you are looking for an easy to use, great quality colour and black and white, Great value photo printer look no further you will not be disappointed.
