The missing part of the puzzle?5
Of the few books I have reviewed I feel this is probably the most difficult, and yet maybe the most required in terms of explanation and relevance to what you might be looking for. Its premise is a phenomenal story of one mans journeys during his experiences of travelling out of his body, and through his own curiosity and endeavour he is taken on a series of incredible journeys through time and space. He meets with various entities from other realities, and through the action of simulation and experience they attempt to show him the purpose of life and the world upon which it depends, from its initial creation to its ultimate completion.

It is both an incredible and immensely thought provoking book and will leave you with many sleepless nights trying to correlate and make sense of his story, and whatever your conclusion it is almost certain that life will not be quite the same as it was before you opened its pages.

Depending on where you are in your quest and the part you are still looking for it will leave you either exhilarated or despondent, and there are certainly elements in this book that will do both. Like `Journeys out of the Body' when it was originally published, I suspect `Far Journeys' is still quite a few years ahead of its time. However, if you think you are at the point where you have read all there is in your quest to fully understand the nature of existence but feel there is still something missing then this might well be the book you are looking for. I hope it resonates and you will go on to read his follow up `Ultimate Journey', if not then I suggest you put it aside and wait. I'm sure there is something here for you, but maybe it's just not the piece of the puzzle you are looking for at this moment.

Food for thought for the open minded soul5
This is the second book in a series of three that Robert Monroe wrote as a trestise on his journeys out of the body. He is objective and inquisitive in his travels, decribing how it all began, what he did with what he learned and how he created the Monroe Institute to study individuals during OBEs. One must have an open mind, meaning that a strong religious belief system would hamper an individual from considering his experiences as fact and chronicle.
This book changed the way I thought about living, priorities and what happens after death. He describes a parallel universe on another vibration level that is achievable by most people given that a high level of desire to do so and the disipline to follow through are practiced.
He reflects a great deal on the significance of his discoveries, relating some pretty hard to swallow experiences (even for the open minded). Nonetheless, I have given this book to several friends who I thought would benefit from the "concept" and was not surprized to find only a very few who would consider the events described as being real. It is unfortunate that long engrained religious beliefs prohibit the mind from accepting the presentation of another dimension obtainable while we are still physical.
This book, written by Monroe is unlike any of the other books I have read on the subject of OBEs since it is scientifically documented, with a considerable amount of information about the running of the Institute with many testimonials from some highly regarded professionals. I highly reccommend this book for those who can keep the mind open long enough to consider the concept and use the lessons for life contained therein.

Far Journeys5
I took this out from my local library some years ago now and, you know how they used to advertise books with the slogan "This book will change your life"? Well, this one didn't use that blurb but the fact is it did indeed change my life.

I was fascinated with the new language Robert Monroe had created to describe his experiences and also by the weird and wonderful world he seemed to have access to.

But what changed my life was using the little exercise he had created and included at the back of the book for use if you wished to try to encourage one of these experiences. It involves inviting whoever might be out there to assist. Well I thought I'd try it, just before sleep as he suggested. I am pretty skeptical and didn't expect anything at all to occur. How wrong I was.

For about four hours or so that night, as accurately as I can assess, I was in a state between sleep and waking consciousness. I seemed to be being guided along various corridors and shown many things, things which seemed "important" at the time, but which I lost consciousness of the next day. I only remember coming up to semi-consciousness every now and then through those four hours or so and thinking, increasingly bored "Oh, it's STILL going on..." The next morning I was nonplussed about the experience, not remembering any of the detail it was impressive that ANYTHING at all had happened but not earth-shaking as it would be if I could have recalled what all I had been shown.

The next day came the second unique experience and an even more powerful one. I was driving home from work when out of the blue my mental universe changed. Suddenly, for no earthly reason I felt simply ecstatic, completely blissful. I had the knowing that everything was actually exactly in place, that there was actually no such thing as danger AT ALL. I felt, to the depth of my being that in reality there WERE no opposites, there were in fact no dichotomies whatsoever in existence. The feeling at this point was SO wonderful that I had the thought that I couldn't POSSIBLY go on living a normal life in this state, it was just TOO TOO high. So, after what was only moments the feeling was gone. But I will NEVER, EVER forget that moment. I have never again tried Robert Monroes exercise, something tells me I need not, that everything was there in that moment if I only know it.

From that time I knew something other about this life. And, if the reality I felt is true, we have such wonders ahead of us and an ecstasy no earthly thing can provide...
