Interesting approach
If you've read around New Age topics for any amount of time you will notice that they tend to be very good at giving you pages of assurances, reams of historical data (often with no real sources). Usually you will get 200 pages of filler, and 20 pages of actual technique.
In Mastering Astral Projection, the authors Bruce and Mercer have taken a nuts and bolts approach to the task of teaching the reader Astral Projection through a progress, goal-oriented program. In fact, they've done away with most of the fluff that makes up the majority of the books on the subject, suggesting a few titles to round out your knowledge (they advocate reading about OBEs before sleep, in order to facilite the possibility of spontaneous projection).
The book is divided into sections and the authors advise that you take it slowly, not reading beyond the exercise for the day. Each day entry has a check list of things to do so that as you progress you will build upon previous lessons. Instructions are clear and very concise and the book is a very easy read. Although the title is "90-Day Guide to OoBE" the chances are that, like me, you will have problems following the course a day at a time.
Mastering Astral Projection comes with a CD which contains a Brain Wave generator. I have not tried to use it yet, so I cannot say whether or not it is useful, but I did notice that it is for MS Windows only.
The only negative thing that I have to say about the book is that there aren't any pictures. A few concepts are difficult to relate through just one medium, and there are those of us who are more comfortable following visual instructions. I feel that the descriptions of the energy work would have helped, and perhaps for the relaxation sequence also (although I realise that adding pictures to a 500+ page book may have meant leaving out more useful material, so this is not so much a detraction, it just would have helped me).
I'm still following the course, (I'm about a third of the way in) and I will post a follow up when I have finished to let you know the results. So far the practice of keeping a dream journal has meant that I have become more aware of my dreams, and have had one or two lucid dreams, which I have not experienced in some time. I've also benefited somewhat from the relaxation and meditation exercises.
Bruce and Mercer also run a forum out of Mercer's website, the url is in the book (look them up). The forum contains loads of information not in the book, as well as FAQs and thousands of users sharing their experiences.
On a final note, on the Amazon US site there is a person by the name of Sapphire using multiple accounts to down rank this book. Having read William Phillip's review above I wondered whether or not he might be the same person employing the tactic on the UK site. Even if the book is only about mind training and mental projection (as he claims), that still makes it a useful book to me. Also, the quotaton cited in the review, although it comes from an online source it is by no means a "famous encyclopedia" and the quoted section does not specifically refer to Mastering Astral Projection (neither does it mention the book at all on the entire page), so buyer beware, and perhaps check the reviews on the US site before you make up your own mind.
I heartily recommend this book for anyone who is, like me, a beginner to the world of OoBE and is interested in learning more.
Another excellent book!
Great book, very easy to follow and easy to understand - even for novices. I definitely recommend this book - Robert Bruce knows exactly what he is talking about.
Good book but.....
This is total waste of time, because the misleading of the other page reviews (Astral Dynamic), I bought this book. Reading through the pages, you will find out it is a mind training, and project your mind out. It is not astral projection.
It is a meditation ONLY book.
The author does not know what he is talking about, to help you futher, you can google this book other people's reviews and in one of the famous encyclopedia quotes about this book, "but no explanation is given as to how forms and entire environments can exist without spatial dimensions, nor why there can be a sequence of events and yet no such thing as time."
