Customer Reviews

Good breadth of subject matter, though index near to usless.4
This is more than just a very good reference book for Crystal Reports. It goes beyond the manual included with Crystal Reports and covers using Crystal Enterprise for web reporting and creating applications using Visual Basic. However a reference book needs a decent index, this book does not which makes finding the subject you are looking for very difficult. This is definitely the best book on the market but hopefully there are better books on the way.

Unsatisfactory1
This book claims to be the most comprehensive Crystal reports resource available. Its bigger than the 8.5 manual and you would actually expect it read like a reference, sadly its like a novel, too wordy, the information is not immediately presented, not enough detail and quite disjointed.
Not one topic is exhausted in detail; the authors tease you with scenarios of the perfect report and then leave you hanging with bits of information. Not once have I referred to this book and not thrown it away in disgust. With every passing day the CR8.5 user guide looks more appealing. Simply put the book is disappointing, typical explanations are made with statements as - you can do this and that and even this. Then quickly they authors move to - after you have done this and that and even this, but often they omit the HOW! Why is it called a reference?...
