Very useful study aid for MRCP and Final MB4
This book is comprehensive text on clinical skills that is required of a young physician to be successful at the MRCP PACES. It is written and presented in a reader-friendly format and can be used for quick reference in the clinical settings. In an era where less emphasis is placed on clinical methods this book tries to re-instate this forgotten art and therefore even the experienced clinicians and medical teachers will find this a good resource for their library. I strongly recommend this book for candidates preparing for the MRCP and similar exams and medical students too will gain immensely by using this book when preparing for their final clinicals.

A.C.E.S for P.A.C.E.S. Advanced Clinical Evaluation System f5
ACES for PACES, an advanced clinical evaluation system for practical assessment of clinical examination skills by B.A.S.Jayasekera is a clinical text aimed at assisting physicians hone their clinical skills for the ordeal of professional examinations as well as that of clinical practice.

Unlike most texts, it actually fulfils its promise of taking the reader through a hypothetico-deductive method of eliciting signs and symptoms to arrive at a diagnosis.

The introductory chapter details examination format with time allocations and gives useful tips on examination techniques to impress PACES assessors. The following chapters on clinical skills, physical examination and regional examination are descriptive and very useful. Each subsequent chapter is dedicated to a system and contains a comprehensive review of the symptoms, signs and diagnoses within that system.

The final chapter on communication skills and ethics, summary of history taking and physical examination tie together the preceding material.

Overall this is a very readable book with logical layout of information which lends itself to memory. It is a very useful revision for post-graduate and undergraduate students as well as practising physicians alike. I would certainly prescribe it for PACES success. An ace of a book !

A Book worth a place on the Physician's shelf5
What stuck me most about this book was the thought given to the lay out. The main focus is on the M.R.C.P. examination.
The lay out is such that information regarding a particular disease condition or a specific system examination can be read up and mastered easily. The book describes proper examination methods in some depth.
This publication unlike the standard M.R.C.P. book will remain a useful educational tool even after the examination success.
