- covers the historical context and development of the subject, as well as the changing national, international and political contexts of employment relations.
- includes frequent engaging self-evaluation activities for students, and case studies within each chapter.
- A companion website at www.pearsoned.co.uk/rose offers useful weblinks, annual legislative updates, answers to the book's self-evaluation questions, and teaching resources.
New to this edition:
- updated with relevant and contemporary statistics, legislation, case material and academic contributions.
- new chapters on 'Employee participation, partnership and involvement' and 'Collective disputes and their resolution'.
- more extensive consideration of HRM within the employment relationship.
- inclusion throughout of the debates and issues of today, such as employee voice and partnership, modernisation vs. marketisation, collectivism vs. individualism and the future of employment relations.

Customer Reviews
An excellent introductory book
The book by Rose is up-to-date and comprehensive. As a student, I liked the numerous examples and the 'self assessment' questions which checked on my progress. Unlike most books in this area, I found that the reader-friendly style and the historical context of many issues such as trade unions and collective bargaining enhanced my understanding of the subject. The book is most valuable for the practical emphasis given in the later chapters and advice on how to manage everyday employment relations problems such as discipline, grievance, discrimination and redundancy. All in all, a good read.
Employment Relations
Not worth buying this book. I bought it as it was a required text book for my employment relations module. Tried using it for an assignment but ended up using google!!
Review of Employment Relations text
I borrowed this book from my university library and this gave me a chance to look through it. I was very impressed with the coverage and relevance of the topics. I especially liked the background information to most topics which put them all in context. I bought the book and am now using it for my coursework - it's extremely useful for this as well.
