Something for young kids, teens and adults
The graphics remind me of the best the Playstation 1 ever came up with, but a little more pop-up on my old GeForce 3 card. But you forget this as the camera angles and scenary are good, including driver's view. It does occasionally freeze for a couple of seconds on my old PC when Windows runs out of virtual memory but most PCs bought in the last 5 years should be fine.
My four-year-old loves the preset tracks (no de-rails, you can go through red lights), changing the points and watching me try to get through the easier scenarios.
There are tons of different models of trains and trucks plus you can create your own landscapes/tracks and trains. The high level scenarios must be really challenging, picking up new trucks and changing points whilst keeping to the timetable.
Well..
The trains and trackside stuff are very pretty, but the scenery is quite blocky and could have been better detailed (mountains don't just stick up like deformed pyramids) especially with modern pc's (and given the graphic options available even more so).
It's well supported online, with thousands of downloadable extras (loco's, rolling stock, scenery, control commands, etc) from the hundreds of fans on the trainz forum alone, not including the independent sites that have formed to show the enthusiasm of it's fan base.
Your couple of quid (just look up to see how cheap it is!) could easily be worse spent. A full price program would only have netted 3 stars.
it was ok
I got this game for Christmas 2 years ago. I must say the scenery was quite good. One thing was there wasn't any routes i was familiar with and the cab wasn't very detailed and there wasn't an functional buttons in the cab.I only put three stars because i'm saying thank you to my grandad for puting the effort in to buy it for me.
