Product Description

Tom had always drunk. Initially it was to escape the drudge of school and the distress of his rapidly disintegrating family, but as his career in journalism took off, so his alcohol consumption turned into a full-blown obsession. Having first run amok in London, it was landing the seemingly plum job of nightlife columnist at the "New York Post" that saw his life spiral completely out of control. Tom treated Manhattan as his Martini, until one day - hungover and alone - he realised he was totally out of his depth and, what's more, he didn't even care. "What Did I Do Last Night?" is the sad, funny and brutally honest tale of his descent into uncontrollable excess.

Customer Reviews

Truely enjoyable book! Must read!5
I brought this book after a recomendation in my university paper, I am not a great reader of books, but i manged to finish this one in 2 days! It is a warts and all biography in a way of Tom's stuggle with alcohol, drugs and money. I found it tremendously enjoyable and hard to put down. Please give this book a try, you will not be dissapointed.

A good read but lacking in depth4
I enjoyed this book but agree with the comments made by a previous reviewer about the font and layout. The book should have been so much more; the reader never gets to learn much about the author's long-suffering girlfriend for example. Why on earth didn't she leave him? I would have also liked to hear more about his eventual rehabilitation which he made sound far easier than it really is. He doesn't really go into why he ended up addicted to alcohol which would have added interest as it doesn't usually happen by accident.I also thought he was rather disingenuous about his parents not being well off when he went to Eton! That said, he was lacking in self-pity and writes well. But, for a far more mind-blowing account of the depths of addiction, read James Frey's 'A Million Little Pieces'.

Gripping Read5
This book is very funny, sad and tragic, all at the same time - it has all the classic ingredients of a good book. The writing is very immdeiate, it grabs you right away and you can't put it down. You can tell its all true - which makes it feel all the more worth it somehow. The author seems like he might have been a bit of a plonker before when he drank but by the end of the book you like him despite some of the things he did when he was pissed. He also has the ability to laugh at himself which always makes for a better read. If you want an unputdownable book - this should be next on your list.
